I had never been in this store before but my mom just moved into town and we wanted to check it out. I’m not trying to say this is a bad place based off of 1 experience but we took about 8 dead beta fish off of the shelf and had to find a worker to take them all from us. No big deal, just fish.. they die everyday but 8? Some of them looked like they were already decomposing but we were told that they had just come in the day before and nobody checked them that morning. We are two adults but imagine how mortified a child would be going to buy a fish and seeing most of them are dead? The plants in there didn’t look cared for either most of them were wilting and brown, most of the snakes were piled in 5 to a tank, and something about all of these things just doesn’t sit right with me. There’s a right and wrong way of doing things but maybe have your staff pay better attention to the well being of your animals even if they are only there for a short amount of time. I was afraid of leaving a review because I’ve seen some where you guys bite back at people but this is more of a concern for the living creatures that are in this pet store.
Edit: You could have totally responded in a nicer manner and we would have been all good but now I’m telling everyone I know not to shop here or support your business. Your attitude is gross. Apparently your staff doesn’t tell you everything because we were nice enough to point it out to her and she responded with “I’m sorry we forgot to check them this morning”. You do you, I know nothing about owning a small business but if someone is nice enough to give you a heads up about where maybe you could improve, you should listen. I stated at the top of my review that I wasn’t saying this was a bad place off of one experience but your snarky comments are what is costing you money, not the dead fish and plants. If you would pull your head out of your unmentionable place you would realize that I was trying to be informative and not writing your business off totally. Yet here we are Matt.
Further, you can see from the comment you left me and the others who also had poor experiences what I meant by bite back. Thank you for giving...
Read moreUpdate: owners response proves and confirms my review even more. To assume based on 3 reviews I've posted since I just moved to Illinois that my recent reviews have been placed I've just experienced here in Illinois. Love the siblil jab towards a previous customer as I do agree not every store is exactly a good fit for everyone but if this is the response he gives seems he can't handle criticism well. In turn resorts to projection and gaslighting to fit his narrative. But hey was just stating .y experience instead of an apology he took the under jab and clearly not happy with my review to heart and shown my review wasn't to far off. Also I hope that very skinny tokay gecko is still alive or found a home..thank you MATT for your response I did happen to find a wonderful site that charges way less and provides way more. So most definitely thank you for your time.
I'm a bit disappointed the times I've been there it seems they care more about money and up selling. The workers act as if your aburden on them for asking for feeders or help. Never experienced a friend employee there. I bought a bearded dragon and the guy kept telling me what I needed to get which btw I don't need a cricket carrier for crickets to be contained in. Then I noticed the prices for animals and live insects and feeders is way to over priced it cost me over 30$ alone for just 50 meal worms and 3 dozen large dubias( which half were not large at all ) you are better off ordering reptiles and such off morph market. And I will be ordering feeders from online. If I need it bad enough I'll just drive to Saint Louis way cheaper even with the gas u use. Really wish there was another reptile store near by. Reptiles are expensive but shouldn't be that expensive a lot you can buy used on FB or there places for cheaper. Please research people before you shop and buy. Like...

The staff is very knowledgeable about their products and animals. Unfortunately, they are not very forthcoming when it comes to their kits. I bought a bearded dragon kit on black Friday for my daughter's birthday in January. I took her to the store to pick out her dragon and I was an informed that the bearded dragon kit isn't designed for bearded dragons; I had to buy new bedding because the sand is bad for dragons, I had to buy a new light because the UV light doesn't work with the fixture that came with it. I was also informed that baby dragons shouldn't eat meal worms because they can't digest the husk on them so food in the kit didn't work either. So this "kit" ended up being a tank, a light fixture, water bowl, and food bowl. I had to pay 60.00 additional for a light and bedding to replace things that were "wrong" on the kit. The standard baby dragon was 60.00. then buying basking branches and caves and food, etc. I paid almost 300.00 for everything above the kit I received. I am almost 500.00 in on this dragon.
I talked to the manager who offered, I think 20.00 in rewards to help offset the cost of crickets once. This is the reason I am giving 2 stars instead of 1. Everything is apparently ZooMeds fault even though they were selling the kit still.
Just know that if you are buying this 250.00 kit for a bearded dragon that you will need to spend at least another 60.00 on stuff that should be in the kit but isn't. And then you need sticks rocks and decor that's not included.
I am playing consumer advocate here because no...
