It saddens me that I have to write this because Farm Neck golf course has always been a pleasure to play at for my annual golf birthday trip to the vineyard. Unfortunately, my experience this year left a lot to be desired.
My family surprised me with a round of golf where I joined my Dad as well as my brother and sister in law. I will admit that they are novices and also had never played at Farm Neck before. Nonetheless, they just wanted to enjoy the experience of playing at the famed course. When it became obvious that they were really holding up the course due to their pace of play, we were escorted by a staff member, Kyle, back to the club house much to our chagrin because again we wanted to play, but we came to understand that our pace of play would not only ruin our experience, but that of other golfers as well.
We spoke to the General Manager about this and he offered that he would treat us to lunch and a rain check for our round which ended prematurely.
Now, this is where things get particularly interesting. I decided to cash in my rain check the following morning and called the course at about 6:30am to do so. I spoke to a lady who already had an attitude, told me that I was not entitled to a round because we had opted for lunch instead. I made her aware that in fact the GM and Kyle had offered us both lunch and a round of golf (9 holes). She reluctantly said that I would have to get to the course at 7:15am to tee off, which I did.
As I was trying to check in, the lady that I had spoken to on the phone introduced herself as “Sandy” and was again adamant about receiving a note from management stating that since we choose lunch and not golf, there was no tee time for me today. She then asked me to leave, which was EXTREMELY rude and disappointing to say the least. I then calmly asked her if there was a problem and even had my sister in law call in to clarify what might have seemed to be a miscommunication. It appears that Sandy spoke with her and then hung up on her.
I told Sandy this was rather unfortunate that I hope she has a blessed rest of her day because she was clearly troubled by something that is beyond me.
I hope that this was an isolated incident and does not tarnish the experience that I hope to have on the Vineyard with my family in the future.
I also hope that this review serves as a cautionary tale to anyone considering to play at Farm Neck golf course...
Read moreIt’s surprising that Farm Neck Golf Club has less than 100 reviews on Google because it truly deserves far more recognition. This semi-private course is the crown jewel of public golfing options on Martha’s Vineyard, especially in an area dominated by private clubs. If you’re visiting the island and searching for a semi-private well-maintained course with top-tier greens and exceptional dining, Farm Neck is unparalleled.
The greens are pristine, a testament to the meticulous care put into maintaining the course. It’s challenging yet accessible, offering a fantastic experience for golfers of all skill levels. An added bonus? The quality rental clubs. For those who prefer to travel light, this thoughtful touch makes Farm Neck even more appealing.
Over my many visits, I’ve grown to appreciate not just the golf but the overall experience. The Pro Shop is well-stocked, making it easy to grab mementos or essentials for your round. If this is a special trip with friends or family, consider picking up a keepsake to commemorate the experience.

Read moreThis place is absolutely fantastic, from the layout, to the course conditions , to the staff, just truly amazing! My daughter and I play three times during the week that we are on Martha’s and hope to do so for years to come. I truly cannot rave enough! The staff is super friendly and helpful. It’s as if it is a secret, special place, that we are privy to. While we are there we are treated like members, almost more so than my home club. The pro shop is also top notch. I buy a lot of swag and proudly rep it when I am home. I am hesitant to leave this review, but it would be almost criminal not to share how special of a...
