Alterations for my wedding dress with Suzy were over $600, but I expected that because the dress had a lot of detail and we had to reduce a couple sizes down. So I don't have a problem with the price. I also appreciated that she accepted walk-ins and agreed to complete alterations in a short amount of time before my elopement (I was 6 weeks out from the wedding and she estimated to complete alterations in 4 weeks; and she met this deadline).
I didn't have a lot of options for alterations because everyone in the area was horrible at answering calls, I am brand new to Wisconsin, and I was close to my date. For the record, Suzy's also doesn't answer phone calls or return voicemails. You have to just go there in person.
Her first comment was to me was that I should get rid of my dress and go buy another one. Not an option. This dress was worth $2000 (I paid $1000, already more than I wanted to invest in this) and any place now wouldn't be able to get me a dress in such a short amount of time). Anyway, that should have been my first sign.
So, on point...with the amount of money I paid for dress alterations, I expected better. My bustle was lopsided and pinned with safety pins. Safety pins! Nothing sewn. Nothing discreet. I didn't know because I didn't have anyone there with me for my final fitting and my mom was going to help me figure it out with a video I took of myself in the mirror once we got there. Then my flight was delayed and we had to do it on the spot. When my mom was in the process of walking me down the aisle, she saw all the pins on the back of my dress and stopped me before I turned the corner so she could pull out all the ridiculous pins on my dress.
So I paid for a bustle I couldn't use. And that was a major pain because I had planned to hike, climb, dance, and whatever adventure came up that day.
The fit itself also was not stellar. Instead of taking any measurements of me, I put the dress on at the initial fitting and she placed safety pins all around my silhouette through the dress. She couldn't make recommendations to me about suggested undergarments. And I wanted the dress to be completely form-fitting, but it was not. When I went to pick it up, there were even bright white areas on both sides where she had forgotten to cut the overlapping lace from what she took in. They were thick diagonal lines, almost like triangles, that stuck out very brightly because the dress was mostly an ivory tone with white lace. I had to ask her to cut the lace so it wouldn't look like that. (It did look fine, ni that regard at least, once the lace was cut.)
Overall, I'm not super impressed. She did okay, and it didn't ruin my wedding day or anything. I didn't express my dissatisfaction, except with the lace issue, so I can't say how she would have responded to that. Fittings felt rushed and I didn't have family in town to go with me, so I didn't really notice issues until later. I know that she had a lot of work to do with my dress, really, but I honestly wish she just wouldn't have accepted the job so I could have taken it...
Read moreI have been having a number of items tailored here over the course of the past year. I've waited to write this review so I can confidently share my experience. If you live in the Racine/Kenosha/Oak Creek area, you will not find a better tailor. They have expertly worked on a variety of men's wardrobe items. Their communication is good, which is unusual for tailors - most of the time they return your garmets to you ahead of schedule. They are a fun and friendly group of ladies. I like that they use a texting system to let you know when your items are ready. And while their prices are not dirt cheap, the truth is you get what you pay for. If you're considering trying this business, I can whole heartedly encourage you to go there, they will help you in any way they can and they will make you...
Read moreHave used Suzy's a number of times and the most recent was for my daughters prom dress. Price was actually more than what I would have paid at the place we purchased dress, however they did a wonderful job. Took in a pair of shorts and a pair of pants and she announced $15. I thought she was referring g to both, and I would've considered that a deal, but no she charges $15 for each. So $30 for a hem on 2 things seems a little steep- especially Italy since you'd think shorts hem would be cheaper. As I said- always incredible job, but for what they charge, I think I'll pay to...
