My family and I had a WONDERFUL experience at New River ATV!
My parents and I are from Mississippi, so planning a trip 10+ hours away was no easy feat. We love being surrounded by nature, but are not hiking people! Knowing that West Virginia has some of the most beautiful scenery, it was important to us that we were able to experience some of it, while also remaining comfortable. New River ATV gave us that, and so much more!
We arrived on site about an hour early, and were instantly greeted by kind smiles and some furry friends. Once our tour guide Emma arrived, we discussed what we wanted to see the most, and she changed her route just to ensure we were able to see what we wanted to! We were given two sets of walkie talkies, a cooler (filled with water), and paper towels to ensure that we were comfortable and prepared for the trip. The jeep tour was around 4 hours, which was plenty of time for us to get out of the jeep and look around at the sites. Emma never made us feel rushed, and we felt completely safe in the areas she took us to. She communicated with us clearly what turns we needed to make, if the road ahead was rocky/curvy and some really neat facts about the places we were traveling to. Emma was completely knowledgeable about the area, and provided us with plenty of information to make sure we were well informed. We were able to ride in the jeep with the top down, blast some music, and commune together in some beautiful nature without feeling lost, rushed or in danger.
Overall, I would highly suggest anyone traveling to West Virginia to schedule a tour with...
Read moreI did not expect what I got to experience for two hours. Talk about an adrenaline rush. You feel the excitement the moment you hit the trail shortly after rolling out from HQ and it just builds and builds.
There’s sort of two halves to this trip. On our ride, the first hour you make your way to an ancient millions years old cave. To get there we went through muddy terrain full of curves and puddles and all sorts of hills that go through a forest. We disembarked for 10 minutes to look at the cave, drink water and then made our way back to HQ going an insane trail for about an hour and 10 minutes that has even more mud and deep water than in the first hour.
That second half of the trip was absolutely lit towards the last 20 minutes. The adrenaline rush just doesn’t seize. You go through forest once again; up and down, dodging branches, logs, fallen trees and rocks all the while going through very narrow trails until you get back out on to a gravel road which takes you back to HQ.
It was exhilarating and honestly the highlight of all the activities I’ve done around the area. The scenery constantly changes and you never know what to expect and this was really the key to the adventure.
Lastly, the ATV’s are very easy to drive. The throttle is just a little thumb throttle you press and you never have to deal with gear shifting. By the second hour of the trip I was extremely comfortable and kept up with our guide, Mike, who was an awesome spirit and overall good man.
He said it’s absolutely lit in the fall. So I’ll be coming back and bringing friends!

Read moreThe atv tour with Esther as our guide was awesome. Prepare to be muddy! Or at least be okay going through enormous puddle after puddle that are so frequent they almost seem to be man made and are filled to the brim with water (tho Esther assured me they were not hand filled 😄). Bring waterproof boots, or old shoes you don’t mind getting completely wet and muddy.
The pace is good, and while there is challenging terrain you are never put in danger or a situation that you aren’t prepared for. Most of my time was spent closely watching the terrain on the trail in front of me. But, on the rare occasion when there was a stretch of smooth trail ahead I would turn my gaze to the side for a few seconds and watch the countless trees flow by as we sped past them. In my mind it was our own personal Star Wars speeder bike tour. Even though we typically stayed around 20 kmh.
We were two for two on great guides with Ace this week and Esther really knows her stuff when it comes to ATVing and the hundreds of miles of trails that make up the forest we toured. Esther has a great manner of communicating with guests, teaching them the basics of ATVs, and also commanding their respect. She seems to have a grasp of nature that belies her 24 years of age. She has the kind of knowledge and personality to match that she really ought to have her own outdoor show. ATVing w Esther. It was an enjoyable...
