Visited one day after opening of Granite Point road. Large snowfield to cross at the end of the trail climbing the dome. It was not a significant problem to get to the top, but sensible shoes with good traction are necessary and sandals will not do. Note, there are two parking lots for this trail. I strongly recommend the second one driving toward Granite Point. The first is closer to Taft Point and has a much larger snowfield at the beginning.

A beautiful 360° view from the top of a granite dome, overlooking all of the major Yosemite’s landmarks, such as the Half Dome, El Capitan, Yosemite Falls, Nevada & Vernal Falls and the valley itself. From the parking lot it’s a 30’ hike, not too difficult. Once you are at the base of the dome, scramble your way up to the top (for the last 5’ there is no predetermined path).

The view was incredible. I wonder how it looks during the night. Can you actually see the Milky Way? I'll need to go back and check. The trail is not very difficult because it is mostly plain, apart from the last part. But remember to take a lot of water as there are no stations at the beginning of the trail. It is about 1.30- 2 hrs for the round trip.
