I have been a regular customer since 1984. I will begin by stating that Rochester Cider Mill has the BEST CIDER I have ever tasted bar none! Their regular cider throughout the season is above average and the craft ciders range from super tasty to what I would rate as World Class! The staff knows their apples and how to make ciders like no one else. They choose blends that nearly always result in an exceptional cider, filter out impurities and do not pasteurize which optimizes the flavor. Their pies, donuts, and caramel apples are all tasty. I really love the fact that they have a wide variety of apples to purchase including the old fashioned McIntosh, the regular standards such as Yellow and Golden Delicious and a newer variety which is the BEST EVER and a variation of the Honeycrisp and is called an Evercrisp! Regarding the apples and associated products they rank a solid 5 plus stars!
The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful which I appreciate.
I wish I could give them a perfect rating but the fact they do not take a credit card is a big negative. This is the only business that I know of that does not accept credit cards. I don’t drive by this business all the time so when I do I like to stop and usually spend $30 or more. More than once I have pulled in, checked my wallet and realized I did not have the cash so I just headed off on down the road. One time I used their ATM to get cash and found out I was charged a fee by the ATM company as well as one by my bank so that put an end to that. I have shared my disappointment of no credit card acceptance with some of the staff (as I’m sure an uncountable number of other patrons) and some of the reviewers have but they have obviously made a business decision to operate this way. Unfortunately it gives the appearance that they are being cheap by not offering credit card usage then providing an ATM that their customers are charged a fee for just to purchase their products.
I know they have also responded to other reviews regarding their prices and they stated their prices are in line with what other cider mills in the area charge. If they are comparing to Yates or Paint Creek that may be the case but they also don’t have the building and ambiance that the others have to justify higher prices.
I really dislike not being able to give them a higher rating because their ciders are unbeatable but higher prices and no credit cards results in 4 Stars to slightly...
Read moreI had a very hostile encounter with an angry, disgruntled employee - it was my first time visiting this cider mill with the little boy I take care of. We walked in around 10am, so it wasn't busy. The older man ringing us up questioned me for buying my little boy a cinnamon sugar donut to eat (and it's a kid friendly mill)? After I ordered, he mumbled/rattled off the prices of each item I ordered, instead of giving me a total for my order, and it confused me (as I'm trying to keep an eye on my little boy). I accidentally gave him too much cash, and instead of laughing it off as I was, he stopped, looked me dead in the eye and said, "Did you even PASS math?" I was stunned. The other men working around him didn't even stop him from speaking to me this way.
We were very excited for our first cider mill trip of the season together and it was completely ruined. There's plenty of kid-friendly cider mills in the area with animals - and better donuts, too. Don't go to this one if you don't want to be harassed...
Read moreIt is very small. Not much to do at all like yates cider mill. There were a lot of bees outside surrounding the picnic tables I was concerned about my one year old getting stung with how many there were.. So we ended up back seated inside instead. It wasn't an awful experince.. we went to hand the girl a credit card and she goes cash only.. so we said ok.. and then the other girl goes we should put that up somewhere so people stop doing that.. she was kind of rude.. maybe instead of talking about doing that.. get off your butt and do it then. The place was just alright. If you aren't looking for much then go here. If you want more to do go to yates. That is where we will continue to go...
