May 18, 2025 10:20am Tee Time
$51 for 18 with cart (+$10 park daily entrance fee they don't tell you about when booking online)
Nice clubhouse staff. Quick efficient check in. Cart staff was pulling carts out every minute or so which turned into clubhouse curbside service which was a nice welcome. Starter (Tom) was welcoming.
Got paired with another 2some who were a perfect scoring match to our 2some (1 first time golfer).
Nice course, very wet (we have had a LOT of rain so far this year so it is understandable) on the fairways. Cart path only (which honestly unless roped off most including us violate).
Some of the edges of the fairways were pretty rough and patchy while other fairways looked like they belonged on a private club course. Quite the mix. Pretty decent considering it is in a Metro park. Greens are pretty large. A few are pretty tricky as not much flat ground on them.
We had 1 lefty in our group and there were 3 or 4 holes that played perfect as they had left doglegs.
Pace of play (I play in league golf elsewhere so I am aware of my timing and those playing around us) seemed ok but clock wise was really slow. Multiple signs at tee boxes mentioned 90 minutes to this point where we were at like 2:15.
At the turn told the Starter (Tom) we were going to let the trailing 4some play through. Thanked me for letting him know and volunteering it rather than being told. The 4some just drove past us at the clubhouse stop like they just expected it. Rude!
Back 9 was a little more cut through the woods here and there. Mushy fairways as there were more water hazards.
Tee boxes (we hit from all of them that hole) on 17 might as well been hitting off a baseball infield. No grass, hard packed dirt. Must not get any of the rain as they are pretty tree covered there but definitely need some early season care. Worried I would chip an iron it was so hard there. Tom said after 2 years they dredged the pond there and pulled out 8,000 golf balls this year! Well count me in for 2 more for the next time you clean it out.
We were playing kind of fast the last 3 holes as I had to rush out right afterwards but 18 with a 5 minute break at the turn got us finished at 3:50pm (started on time at 10:20am) so be prepared for a longer than average outing. 5 1/2 hours carding a 104 (I don't think I carded less than a 3 putt all day - not so much the course but my putting has fallen off already this season) seemed a bit long of a day. Let a few 2some pass here and there. Saw the ranger out a few times. Not sure if it was the layout of the course or what as usually only takes 4-4:15 for me to play 18.
Would consider returning to play here but would carpool in to split the $10 park fee. Also check the park event schedule. They were hosting a run/bike (maybe triathlon?) event that forced me to drive half way around the park to get to the golf course entrance as the original one was blocked off due to the road race.
Would be nice if you could show your reservation for golf and they would bypass the fee but understand parks need $$$.
For a public course in a Metro Park it was a nice course. Better than most 'public' courses. Don't expect 'private' course performance and expect a longer than average outing and you...
Read moreI recently had the opportunity to play a round at Stoney Creek Golf Course, and overall, it was a pleasant experience. The course is in decent shape, although there were a few holes that could use some attention. However, for the most part, the holes were well-maintained and visually appealing.
One thing I noticed about Stoney Creek Golf Course is that the holes are laid out in a logical and aesthetically pleasing order. This made navigating through the course a breeze, and I was able to enjoy the scenic views as I played.
The greens at Stoney Creek were particularly noteworthy. They were fast, which added an extra challenge to the game. If you're not accustomed to quick greens, I would recommend taking your time with your putts. Adjusting your putting speed accordingly will greatly improve your chances of sinking those important shots.
The clubhouse at Stoney Creek Golf Course was quite nice. It provided a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere for golfers to relax and unwind after their rounds. Additionally, I appreciated the fact that they offered a driving range and a practice putting green. These practice facilities are valuable for golfers who want to improve their skills or warm up before a round.
In conclusion, Stoney Creek Golf Course offers a decent golfing experience. While there are a few holes that could benefit from some attention, the majority of the course is well-maintained and visually pleasing. The fast greens provide an extra challenge, so be sure to putt with caution. The clubhouse is a great place to unwind, and the inclusion of a driving range and practice putting green is a definite plus. If you're looking for an enjoyable round of golf in a scenic setting, Stoney Creek Golf Course is worth...
Read moreThe reviews on pace of play are absolutely spot on. Manager reviews are also 100% accurate.
Booked 18 on their website, was told at the turn only 9s were billed due to "leagues" that started. Only took us 3.5 hours to get there as we were paired up, and the two 4somes ahead were hitting when clear and we were all waiting.
On top of that, we had shooter mcgavin player type hitting balls over us on all of the long holes, nearly hitting one player and rolling into another as they were taking their shot.
Asked for a refund, manager claimed ignorance on website, telephone number or his own rules (when to call in vs must be online). The guys we were paired with also asked for a refund, and got theirs because it was done "with cash".
I've played here before when less crowded, and the course is great, a bit challenging for beginners/intermediate players. As one reviewer said, bring your long irons and big Bertha. You will need it.
Ended up calling the "golf now" company (who they use for their website, and claim no responsibility). They provided a credit, as their receipt does not state at all what you paid for.
Course is sort of maintained, greens are mostly clear, no large divots. There is many "ruts" from machinery, which will lead you to take relief. One par 4 had such a large set of ruts it was filled with water. Drainage is a large issue, with standing pools of water 2/3 days after a heavy rain.
Snack bar is meh, they tend to run out of hotdogs. Last time I came they literally ran out at 11 am.
Normally this would be a 3/5 star review, but poor management (super argumentative) and lack of basic greens I leave it at a 1 star.
I recommened finding another course...
