Beautiful, but there are some drawbacks. Too much work for enjoyment -- out guests left after two (2) nights and we left a day early:
ATTN Minorities...interest in customer development/ retention is weak. Make certain you understand & have receipts to substantiate the details of your stay-- the staff who are new to RCI will run back and forth aggravating you, complain that the exchange fee does not cover the cost of the unit, and repeatedly threaten: "I know the sheriff real good". (During an unexpected morning wake-up interruption, the owner proudly volunteered that he is not a Trump supporter-- not sure what that has to do with anything.)
@2 hour roundtrip to WalMart... takes @40 minutes to drive the 12 miles down hill, then 40 minutes to drive 12 miles up the mountain...you have to drive the 20mph curved beyond belief Hwy 80 route (The Devils Whip) BEFORE & AFTER you go or come back from anywhere. The alternate route is through the Pisgah Forest on a similar road -- except there is no pavement (the scenery on the unpaved route is beautiful and you see primitive campers deep in the woods).
No gym on-site...@40 miles to Planet Fitness... FIRST you gotta ride the 40- minute 12 miles downhill then back up after your workout; we never saw the trail.
Lots of creepy crawlies--the first night a big black spider crawled out from under the pillow as I lifted the pillow up to fluff it out in the Master suite. Lots of spiders, ants... you will find yourself joining creepy crawlies in the shower, on the couch, in the bathroom...everywhere. Also saw 2 roaches.
Very limited amenities: small outdoor pool, old pool table, & decent collection of movies & books w/no formal checkout.
The experience was what it was, however, we will not "vacation" as Alpine Village "guests" again. Truthfully, after all the back-and-forth we just never felt...
Read moreSpent four nights at Alpine Resort recently and was pleasantly surprised. The cabins were roomy and well equipped; fireplace, washer/dryer, dishwasher, full kitchen, etc. The view from the deck was incredible. The pool was closed for repair but we wouldn't have much opportunity to use it anyway. I would definitely consider staying here again. Edit: Jun 2016 - Returned and had another nice stay. The pool is open and there is a gas fire pit to enjoy in...
Read moreGreat cabins, very clean and extremely well furnished. Even in the middle of July, the ones without AC are only slightly uncomfortable for a couple hours a day. the rest of the time, the mountain breeze is wonderful and much preferable be having all the windows closed. Amazing views all around, and lots to do...
