An exciting adventure that lived up to every expectation! As ordinary people who spend Monday through Friday at a computer, we search for the activities to make the regular slog worthwhile. Now in my 50’s, I typically look towards things that keep both feet planted on the ground. However, when I craving for something more… adventurous, I take leap that will make a great casket photo. You know, one of those images that they put on a big board that shows all of the silly things you did before you were grey wand wrinkly, and everyone says you were so adventurous. In the effort to make my funeral a little more interesting, I signed up to jump out of an airplane at more than 13k feet. Seeing the excitement of the staff and fellow adventurers at Jumptown made me confident in my decision that I had signed up with the right people. While waiting for our turn to get suited up, we were able to watch several other groups load into the plane, fly to elevation and gently land in the middle of the airfield. The colorful parachutes and the roar of the air rippling across the fabric increased the anticipation for our turn. When they finally called our names, we were introduced to our instructors. They each greeted us with some brief humor to settle the nerves, but quickly went to business strapping us into to the hefty harnesses. They adeptly worked the belt and latches and at one point asked me to move my ‘bits and pieces’ out of the way. After everything was snug, they briefly handed us off to our individual videographers. They were dynamic people that got us to laugh a little and show our personalities to make an interesting intro to our videos of the whole experience. Definitely worth the extra fee to get this service and to get the best casket photos possible. Once in the plane, my instructor, Brad, began to unload his 25 years of experience, which was a great way to keep my mind on task and off the soon to be opening airplane door. As the time approached and as we watched other people slide off the edge of the airplane, Brad was great at keeping me focused on what I needed to, head back, arms crossed, feet behind me. A chant that left my head the moment as sat on the edge of the plan and saw the ground below. No need to worry because Brad ended up pulling all my appendages into their proper places. In a flash we’re out the door and rolling on to our backs to watch the plane speed away. Rolling back over, Brad stretched my arms, hands and feet out to their proper places. Then the videographer came floating into view, prompting me to smile and do some crazy hand jesters, then zoomed off again to get some panoramic views of the free fall. Brad then used his arms and legs to twirl us through a a couple acrobatic maneuvers. Then with a pop, I felt the harness go tight and we were floating. Everything went quiet and the scenery around us came into focus. After several minutes of gliding and twirling through the summer air, the ground approached and we sliding to a stop. What an experience at Jumptown! I coordinated my visit with Marie over the phone, who graciously accommodated a two-day reschedule due to inclement weather.

After a beautiful drive out to the airstrip, Marie welcomed me and I watched some other clients on their descent while I waited for my time slot.

After a safety introduction, I was introduced to my instructor Paul and our videographer, Jaimie. Paul was an absolute legend, he made me feel comfortable and welcomed, and was knowledgeable and professional in every aspect. He explained each step of the process clearly and took time to make sure I was comfortable before proceeding with anything. Jaimie was fantastic as well, someone who clearly takes a lot of pride and joy in her job. Both of them above all else were excited FOR me, and made the experience all the more special. You can tell that they both love what they do, and having people who genuinely like helping people have this special moment made an amazing experience even better.

Words simply cannot describe the jump itself. Seeing the world from two miles up in an open plane would have been a memory all on its own! When it came time to swing my feet over the edge, and Paul asked one final time for the go ahead, we jumped and my world changed.

The wind flying past you, the sensation of flying, and seeing the excitement on Jaimie and Paul’s faces as we all free fell from 13,500 feet was overwhelming. After the chute deployed, I felt such a sense of peace and tranquility as we floated above the world.

After some exciting swings and back and forth, Paul’s clear instructions got us back on the ground safely. At no point in the process was I ever confused about what was happening or what I should be doing, and I never had the faintest sense of feeling unsafe at any point- an impressive feat when there’s nothing below your feet but air.

Paul, Jaimie, Marie, and everyone else I interacted with really felt more like a family than a group of coworkers. You can tell this is a tight knit group of people who love what they do and have built a business around sharing that joy with others. I felt welcomed, I felt like I made friends that day, and I will certainly be back again.

I was also pleasantly surprised to see I would be getting my video and pictures same day! The quality was superb, I received three separate videos and over eighty still photos. I highly recommend the video package to help cherish what will be a life changing...
