I unfortunately had to surrender my girl, Roxxie. She is a Rottweiler. Itâs been a devastating decision but the staff member that I spoke to was very supportive, non judgmental, and understanding. I donât know the names of everyone I spoke to via phone/email but I know I spoke to Taylor and she was very sweet. I asked if she could pass my number on to the next owner so I can answer any concerns which they did and I am very grateful. What is so disappointing is I had a bag full of Roxxieâs toys, a soft blanket, a harness w/ prongs, probiotics as she is sensitive to food changes, and dog pain killers as she had an injury right before surrendering her, and a puzzle dog bowl because she eats really fast at times; none of which was provided to the new owner. I was even told that Roxxie having something from home would help- yet nothing was sent w/ her? What they did provide the new owner w/ was a paper bag w/ a small bag of dog food, some dog treats, and small toys (not hers) that wouldnât even be remotely safe for her to have. They were too small and filled w/ cotton. But I think itâs awesome they sent home some food and treats. I understand a lot of dogs donât get brought in w/ a lot,I donated a bag of pet supplies and gave them $50 since they donât charge a surrender fee, they couldâve sent her w/ her things. I provided so much info about Roxxieâs health which again, was not provided to the new owner- who is blind. One of the things I specifically said the new owner needs to know is she gets severely car sick- so they shouldn't expect her to be a ride along dog all the time, and that she would need some sort of medication beforehand. Well, the gentleman that took her in as I said, is blind and would expect her to travel with him. He was not at all aware of that until he contacted me. He wasnât at all aware that she has been attacked by other dogs and may be uneasy around other dogs;He wasnât aware that she isnât the best on a leash and he needed to be careful walking her on his own. Very vital info for a blind man especially. When I surrendered Roxxie I asked if her injury would be a problem- they said no, that they have a vet. Her injury to her back leg was not thoroughly explained to the new owner, he was unaware of the meds she was on, and when he brought her to his personal vet this morning- the vet was also very upset at the negligence. The vet told him everything that the Roicehurst vet had on the paperwork sent home- well AGAIN -he is blind and cannot read so that should have been read to him.The cost of her surgery unfortunately, neither he or I can afford. Had he been made aware of any of this,he would not have taken Roxxie in as we-and Iâm sure the facility knows-it is very hard on pets to be passed from home to home. But he had to take her back to Roicehurst. Both of us are devastated. She is a very smart, sweet dog, she knows her basics, and she knows the command âguardâ and âfollow me.â Since he is blind, the âfollow meâ command is beneficial for him. I have PTSD so she is very aware of emotions and when to be right by your side. I feel that all she knows are important things to mention.I am very disappointed at the lack of communication and Iâm very sad for Roxxie. My heart breaks for her.I pray that they provide the next owner w/ everything I have told them from the beginning, everything they know about her injury,AND give them all of her things if they havenât already sent them elsewhere. I understand I surrendered her but that does not mean I donât want the absolute best for her; it doesnât mean that I no longer care or love her. I had to make this choice BECAUSE I love her and I want the best care for her that I cannot provide her w/ at this time.I would expect her to receive it by the facility.I hate to leave a bad review because I know not every staff member is responsible, but I strongly feel they took advantage of his disability and did not do right by Roxxie. I feel if all her health needs, her personality traits, and history are told- it would help her find the best...
Read moreA few months ago we lost one of our cats (we had 2), and some friends of mine suggested that I check this shelter out because they had a cat that would compliment the personality of the one we have left. I went to the shelter and really did enjoy the cats that they had, especially the one that my friends recommended. I expressed interest in wanting to adopt him and filled out an application. They recommended that I wait a couple days for the cat specialist to give me more details, but they promised to keep the cat on hold until then. I was expecting to just get some more information about the cat -- they made it sound like I was able to adopt him and that I could have walked out the door with him that day if I was really determined, but I was fine with being patient. I was really excited to have found my cat a friend and spent 2 days getting him excited to meet his new buddy. When we went to pick up the cat, however, we found out our application had been rejected and that they thought none of their cats would be suitable for us to adopt.
Moral of the story: if you plan on letting the cat be in a garage and/or outdoors, and you mention that in the application or to the staff, they probably will not let you adopt a cat. All the animals seemed nice, and the staff seemed to care a lot about the animals, but they made me feel like the home and love I had to offer to any of their animals wasn't good enough, and I really do love my animals and want to give them a happy life, so this whole experience has been disappointing for me. Beware of trying to adopt from an overprotective place because even if you find an animal you love, they may not give it to you. 2 stars because I'm sure this place has positively impacted a lot of...
Read moreWent here to see the adoptable dogs. We were greeted at the door & told of the dogs that were adoptable, which were pictures on a wall of the dogs. Had to sign a waiver then were told to pick a dog to visit with. You have to visit with the dog because they don't allow you to go back & see the dogs in the kennels any more which is stupid because we wanted to see ALL the dogs not just pick ONE. We picked a dog & a lady went back & got the dog and we visited. Employee, volunteer or who ever she was (older lady with dark hair and complexion), was not friendly & did not even offer to work with us. We have a couple of cats & when we asked if the dog was good with cats, she asked a lady inside the building with a radio & found out the dog was not good with cats. She proceeded to tell us that she was taking the dog back to its kennel because it wasn't good with cats. I guess our visit was over because we were wasting her time because the dog didnt get along with cats & it wouldn't work out for us is the impression we got. She never offered to help us find a different dog that might be good with cats or anything, she just told us to check their website or go to the county shelter for a dog. We thought she was really rude & not helpful. We left the shelter without wasting anymore of this lady's time because we have cats. Excuse us for being animal lovers & for having cats. having Not impressed with this shelter after this experience. Do not like the idea of not being able to see all the dogs & having to pick just one dog to visit with. We have adopted from this shelter in the past but, will probably not return...
