My husband, baby and I walked up this the other day and it was beautiful. We were visiting from out of town and when we arrived, the parking lot was closed. There was another parking lot open nearby and we went and parked there. Some locals said the trail is still open to hikers, you just have to go around (towards the freeway) and in through the gate. There were some ice patches on the North side of the trail but it wasn’t too bad and I was in tennis shoes. It’s a nice distance hike (about 4 miles round trip) at a good incline and the view was stunning. It was a clear day when we went. We only ran into a few people (we were hiking on a Friday afternoon) but I can imagine it can get busy. It’s an all paved path which I appreciated. Definitely recommend this hike...

This truly should be higher but Lava Butte is closed from October to May. Sure you can hope road is cleared enough for your car to get into the do not enter wrong way parking lot to hike a beautifully paved trail to the top amongst lava stone, but the roads are NOT maintained. The visitor center is NOT open for 6 months. Please go between May 1st and September, not sure what the weather is like then. I thought early April wasnt off season. I hope you enjoy Lava Butte, the bus to the top, and all the beauty it has to offer but do so during the right season otherwise you may get stuck in the road, come across a downed fence over the road, and you will need to do quite the...

Wow, like another planet in a distant galaxy 🤪 fun and interesting landscape and terrain, here at Molten Lava trail at the Lava Butte. Loves the whole view and experience to say the least, with a perfect paved tar road that even matches the black volcanic rock field and hills. The views from the top of the lookouts are breathtaking, you can see broken top mountains and theb3 sisters as well as Mount Bachelor. We made a hiking adventure video at YouTube @hikebytes highlighting this trail and 4 others all 30 minutes from bend Oregon. A bucket list easy adventure for the whole family, watch out for kids, the lava is sharp and can cut. Parking is ample and is $5...

Excellent views! What an incredible spot, highly recommend for locals and visitors alike. Great for all ages! If hiking isn’t a possibility, you can drive right up to the top. But the hike is incredible, with great views all the way up. Definitely a butt burner, especially carrying a kiddo! It’s fairly steep, good fun, quick hike. A little over a mile and a half if you park at the very start. Well worth it though. Bring water! There is more than just the butte to hike, below the lava fields are some really lovely flat trails, take a right at the visitors center instead. There are bathrooms available. But not at the top of the butte.
