This is a Tolstoy novel so buckle up yâall.
Meriwetherâs staff is ABSOLUTELY on par (no pun intended) with Langdon for level of happy, welcoming and positive. It doesnât feel forced either. It just seems like they hire naturally good people who have great attitudes. Isaac and Chase in the Pro Shop are who I interact most with and my only âcomplaintâ about Chase is that the man knows of my serious weakness for anything Nike and he always makes sure to point out all their new Nike markdowns so I inevitably buy something. In the last 2 years I have bought 3 pairs of shoes, 3 zips/jackets, 2 hats and 1 shirt from Meriwether. Damn you Chase! đ
I also rate it 5 stars because the actual golf part of the facility has everything you need for golfers from just beginning to plus-handicap sticks. 18 hole course, 9 hole practice course, grass range, mat range, bunker practice facility, short game practice facility, full locker room to change and brand new carts with USB chargers.
The best deal in Portland area golf is $139 for M-SU unlimited play on the 9-hole practice (Executive) course. It runs the 1st through the last day of every month and isnât pro-rated. Always buy it the first week of the month to get your moneys worth. (I play 36-54 holes a weekend on it.) You can play that practice course a million different ways. Leave the big stick and woods/metals in the bag and only play irons/hybrids OR bring all 14 and challenge the two 320yd par 4s.
The 18 hole course is solid and a test for any level with fantastically kept greens. One of the features of many holes on the full course is that they use dry, natural grass areas as the âroughâ and those areas are either going to run your ball OB OR under trees OR give you a hard pack lie if you get lucky. So accuracy is key. The fairways are always well-kept.
If you are any level of golfer and love playing golf for the actual GAME of golf, everything you need will be found at Meriwether. Except their bar doesnât sell cigars. You have to bring your own cigars.
Meriwether are my people.
Thanks for taking an hour of your day to read my review. I do hope Iit helps bring you out and may you play...
Read moreI've played Meriwether for over 40 years. I played here several times this season, and three times post-aerifying. I have to say that I am amazed at the transformation in the conditions of this course.
The Greens are fantastic now. There are private clubs that wish they had greens this good. They're rolling at 11+. They're firm, but receptive. They're smooth..and the course set-up is always fair, but challenging.
The Tees are maintained, the fairways are nice..the traps are always raked and manicured. It's extremely pleasing to see how beautiful this course is now. If you've never played Meriwether, you have to play it.
It's also about the most quiet, most peaceful place to play, with no houses, no road noise, as it's nestled between a few farms and the Tualatin River. It's a very beautiful, natural setting.
Plus, this place has an executive course, and one of the best practice facilities in the Portland area. It's great for beginner to intermediate players, but will also challenge the single digit players. It's a must play!
EDIT: Just played there yesterday, and every time I do, Superintendent Tom Keenan shows more of the continued reinvestment into the conditions and aesthetics of the course. The greens are so good, I mean country club good. Unfortunately they're aerifying this week, but those greens will bounce back and they'll be outstanding again soon.
Also, the bunkers have all been edged and more clearly defined. There are more rope and stake areas to reduce cart wear. They also had a major tree trim project on # 10, which was sorely needed. That fairway was getting pretty narrow, but now it's really opened up. And the water way on holes 17, 11, and 15 is really cleaned up too. Very impressed. Great job...
Read moreThe course is challenging, as difficult as most anything in the area. Its slightly cheaper than average, but its in significantly worse shape than anything except your uncle's personal farm course. Therefore, its a terrible value, unless you get a rate of $25 or less. I think the only people that play here are uniformed. Paying $35 for a course with dead spots everywhere is ridiculous. Literally everywhere, even on greens they have bear spots where grass hasn't grown in years. Don't hit it in a bunker because you'll be lucky if it was even raked anytime recently, let alone actually prepped with some kind of machinery like most courses do. They just don't seem to put in hardly any effort into keeping it in even decent playing condition. Bottom line, they don't keep it in good condition and they charge an average rate, making it a bad deal. Go somewhere else and tell them you're doing so until they get their...
