Relatively easy hike for great views from about 1600 ft. up of Nehalem Bay, Manzanita and the coast line, visible all the way to Cape Lookout (on a clear day) ~35 mi. From the South Trail head, you will ascend about 930 ft. on mostly switch backs in a scenic ever green forest. The view point is a bit hard to find, even though there is a white arrow painted on a tree. You'll climb up a rocky area until the clearing appears that matches all those pictures you've seen... Parking is limited, so plan accordingly. Most people would probably spend less than 2 hours total here. Legend has it that Sir Francis Drake buried treasure on NeahKahNie Mountain, but it's against the law to dig, so don't get any ideas... If you are interested in shipwrecks in the area, check out the Nehalem Bay Historical Society in Manzanita!

Hiked from Oswald west parking area to elk trail across the bridge, to devils cauldron, to north neahkahnie mountain trail, then went down on the west side and finished on the 101 going back to Oswald west parking area. The north side of the trail is over 60% over grown, the trail is very narrow and when it's not overgrown there are gnarly tree roots to cross with steep drop offs. In the beginning the trail was very slippery. The west side of the trail was a lot more easier and I saw many people and dogs on the west side. On the north side I only came across 2 other hikers. There were no bathrooms for any portion of this 11 mile hike I did, only the great outdoors. 7/16/18

One of my favorite hikes in the Pacific Northwest. Unbeatable views in the beginning and at the summit - especially on a clear day. Moderately strenuous, a good distance to feel like you got some exercise. The trail from the north is a bit more steep and a mile or two longer than coming from the south.

Awesome hike. View at the summit is breathtaking. Roots, rocks, and steep steps in the trail are common. The final climb up to the summit isn’t really a trail, just a scramble up a rock face. For intermediate snd advanced hikers it’s an easy challenge. For beginners, younger and fitter hikers would be better suited...
