Recently purchased by a group of Members and some additional investors this course has undergone many recent upgrades and changes.
Quite a lot of money has been invested to upgrade the facilities and to make course improvements. There have been new on course bathrooms built that include water stations and water fountains.
New sod has been installed on the driving range and an astro turf surface added to hit off of until the new grass turf is established.
New Course Management Staff has focused on adding water irrigation systems to ensure the green complex's are maintained.
Effective 11/1/24 the current club house and pro shop will be demolished and a new one built. There will be temporary trailers brought in for ProShop and club house so the course will remain open until expected completion in May of 2025.
I had an 1120am tee time today and was able to play all 18 holes in a cart in just about 3 hours. The course is in excellent shape and the greens are exceptional as well as the tee boxes. Along the fairways and out of bounds there are a few holes where the grass has died because the large trees are sucking up all the water so grass doesn't grow.
I like the open fairways and large greens that are mostly flat. There are a few where there are challenges to face because of changing elevations. I especially liked the benefit offered Senior golfers from the Gold tees. In some cases as much as up to 90 yards.
There are not a lot of bunkers and most of them are guarding the greens. Very few fairway bunkers and they are all in great condition. There is some water but not a lot and it comes into play on three to four holes only.
There are a couple of holes that really stand out. Hole #16, a Par 3 where you must carry water for about 100 yards. It plays about 135 yards from a slightly elevated tee box, just a beautiful and scenic hole.
Hole #18, a par 5 which is the classic risk reward hole where water comes into play as the fairway curves around a large pond. It's a beauty and presents a great challenge but not so difficult that an average golfer is blocked out of a birdie opportunity.
There is a lot to like about Country golf in a rural setting. It took me an hour from my house in Fort Mill but easy access off Route 9, a major route from the Fort Mill/Rock Hill area to North Myrtle Beach.
It's affordable and a great value for the money and I was very impressed they have GPS installed in all the motorized Yamaha carts.
I met Steve and Sara in the Pro Shop who are real nice and professional. It's kinda of a bare bones pro shop with not a lot of food options or merchandise like clothing, clubs or other golf gear but they do have fresh cooked self-serve hot dogs, pre-made cold sandwiches and a well stocked beverage cooler.
I imagine this will all be upgraded when the new facilities...
Read moreI haven’t been to this course in a few years and was concerned when I drive up and saw all the work going on. My wife and I played the course and it was in good shape. However, I’ve played hundreds of courses around the eastern US but I have never seen an overall undertaking like Mr. Currie has going at White Plains. A new clubhouse and venue, a new irrigation system, refurbishing all the sand traps and tons of sod all over the course. How the course is open is amazing in itself but to be in the great shape it iin is truly outstanding. Kudos to the owner and his vision for what it can be. I can’t wait to see it in a year!
