Stayed there at the Mt Charlston camp grounds August towards the end of Sept of 2001. Woke up early in the morning preparing to go to work in Summerlin. A suburb of Las Vegas. Camping there with a friend, his kids, and my family. Heard about first tower on a radio of a couple, camping in an R.V. next to our site. Witnessed the second plane hit second tower as I walked into work. Anyhow.... the sites up there are both beautiful and breath taking during the day and night. At night though, the wildlife stir and make there calls to others till sunrise. If you aren't used to the outdoors, ya might want to camp in a trailer or R.V.. The nights there were comfortable, the most of our stay. Would have a campfire every night. My now ex wife and I, would share a six pack of beer. While the others on soda or hot chocolate. After our first week there, around 10:30pm I think, something unbelievable would happen. I swear and put this on my deceased father, my son, and daughter... Almost every night we were staying out there at the Mount Charleston camp grounds. Out of no where, sometimes 3 or as many as I think 8 objects gather hovering in a cluster of sorts. They were brightly lit up, white in color. Looking kinda like the N. star in a place where the sky full of stars, had no light noise, but maybe the moon. Imagine the N. star but 3 times its size. Hovering close enough, less than 3,000ft, it seemed as though you could almost reach for them. Maybe If you were one of the many bald eagles that nested there in the trees. These bright round spheres of light, orbs I guess you might call them. Would come streaking across the sky at impossible speeds to a place where they would gather and suddenly stop. This obviously was not something of this world. The g forces from going almost the speed of light or at least mach IV to a sudden stop. I imagine a persons insides becoming separated and scrambled. These UFOs would put on a show that I wasn't sure if it might be meant for us. They did maneuvers as if they had come under fire from military jets. This wasn't the case though. The UFOs were silent. If they weren't lit up like they were, you wouldn't know they were even there. These visitors would do this almost every night we were there and Im sure they continued after we left. Our fellow campers of course has seen it too. We would try to zoom in onto the UFOs with binoculars and a telescope but they never stood still long enough for most of us to see. As to what we did see.... A solid white light with something inside it. An outline of the UFO I assume.. We all agreed we be better not to discuss it. Not with any of the locals or government officials, in or near Nevada. Im sure they had to have known about them. We might just become collateral damage or a subject of one of their abductions to return with PTSD, nightmares from being experimented on like we do to animals and insects. This writing is a recollection of what I remember from Aug to Sept of 2001. As a greatful believer and follower of God's son, our Lord Jesus Christ. I swear this to be true...! Please, go visit Mt Charleston... The beauty, the mountainside views, and the trails will have you in awe. There is plenty to see and do there. You might get a chance to see for yourself. I was never a believer really of any alien contact before this event, I definitely am now! How can I be the Christian i claim to be? Because the Bible never makes any claim that we, this planet and all its living things were his only creation. We may not be the first and im pretty sure we werent the last. All things should become clear in our passing from our lives here to the one we will recieve when we stand...

Absolutely fantastic hike. I wanted to do this last time I was in Vegas but didn't get a chance -- I did this time. The hike states it's 16 miles out and back and using AllTrails record I logged 9 out and 9 back. My overall move time was just over 7 hours, but I did pause and spent 30 minutes at the summit, and 20 minutes watching an awesome sunset on the north side of the trial.

Just as you'll see from the chart the hike start of with a decent incline from the get-go, tapers off for a couple miles then you hit the switchbacks which kick your butt. It wasn't until I hit over 11,000' I started to feel the altitude kicking in, but it certainly did. I started to get mild leg cramps, sausage fingers, etc. I paused for a couple minutes and hydrated, they proceeded to the top. The hardest part in my mind was the heading down. The switchbacks weren't too bad, but the last 5 miles just never ended.

I got a late start and left the parking lot at exactly 1:00 PM, I didn't get back to the car until 9:00 PM, so 8 hours in total. Once that sun went down, it got pretty dark out on the trail and the last 4 miles was a stealth mission using a headlamp.

Fortunately, the trail is very well defined and easy to navigate. That said, at about the 5-mile marker coming down there are a couple spots you can stray off course and end up at a steep drop-off.

I'm a pretty active guy and doing something exercise wise almost daily. One thing for sure is that this trail kicked my as5. Likely more to do with the altitude than distance, but still did nevertheless.

Awesome trail, highly recommend if you get the opportunity to. The parking lots get full quickly at the bottom --though interestingly enough I saw literally no one on the north trail after...

My boyfriend and I hiked to Mt. Charleston peak yesterday. We did it as a day hike, starting at 8:45 a.m. and finishing by 5 p.m (16.6 miles total). The weather was perfect! As far as snow is concerned, the trail was completely clear with absolutely no patches to have to walk over. As a quick overview, this hike has several switchbacks (a lot of elevation gain)- most are pretty gradual, but some areas can get steep. Great viewpoint areas to rest a moment, as well. There was still a waterfall from snow melt within the beginning mile or so of the hike. Your calves will most likely be sore 👌 The "hurt so good" feeling. I highly recommend this hike if you are experienced/hike often! Nothing beats getting...
