Stanley's General Store — Local services in Palacios

As the only General Store in Matagorda we were looking forward to visiting and buying some amenities we had not brought with us like coffee, Cokes, and a few other items. My wife had me grab a small grocery basket at the entrance and told me you know how I like to shop! So we get in there and the first aisle has some pretty decent T-Shirts, sandals, and beach towels. We actually found a few we really liked. While checking them out my wife started noticing how high the prices were! I mean really High!!! We've gone to NASCAR races and bought our favorite drivers T-Shirts and other apparel and paid $25 for T-Shirts. That's high, but these were like $7 dollars higher! Uh, No. A small container of coffee, No. Twelve packs of Soft drinks, No!!! Do yourself a favor and drive the 20 miles North to Bay City and buy from HEB!!! Or just bring your banking institution with you!!! The wife looked at me and said we were going to the Dollar General. I just followed her out the door and put the basket back where I got it from and we left. Talk about Price Gouging their customers. We had such a terrible experience here. We were in yesterday and inquired about the fishing license. The 1 guy and younger girl told us that the 1 day fishing license is for a 24 hour period. So we went in today to buy one. The manager waited on us and told us that wasn’t the case. So I said you better tell your staff because that’s what they told us yesterday. We started proceeding with the process and she told us where to sign, and In doing so we commented that we couldn’t believe that we were given wrong information, this was a Sunday afternoon at 4:30 pm. We said that’s not right to be given the wrong info. She immediately exploded, pulled the license away from us and told us to leave. We couldn’t believe what she said! She was furious and took our comments personally, that in no way were directed at her!! Talk about the worst customer service award, that store totally...

Great store supplies but no customer service. On vacation in the area and Cashier stood with his back to us playing on a cell phone, we were shopping for local novelty items bought $150 worth of items and never even got a smile or have a great day 🤷🏼‍♀️ Staff in restaurant just didn’t want to be there. Meal cost $35 and food was awful. Chicken tenders cold, gravy was like warm milk. Other food my family ordered was just greasy. We won’t be spending anymore money during our week at this place.
