please don't let this rating stop you from adopting an animal in need, but this place does need an issue addressed I wont go into much detail, because if you are reading my post, you most likley are reading other negative post, and I believe they are mostly on this same topic. This shelter had a hoard of hamsters come in. Another rescure agreed to take in ALL of the hamsters, witha complete care plan, completely free, and the shelter agreed. However after that agreement this shelter went ahead and put down all the female hamsters (almost 100) ,and gave no reason to the public or the rescue who was awaiting their arrival. This outraged many hamster owners (including me) who heard about the case on a facebook hamster care group (many users were considering adopting some of the rescued hamsters or preparing donations for the rescue group) Not only has the shelter neglected to give any sort of appology, reason, or any sort of statement on the issue they deleted and blocked people on their facebook page who were asking "why?" and were upset. They attemted to cover everything up and it makes us wonder what else their managment has or will cover up.While the damage has been done, I think they need to be called out on this, and they should own up to what they did with a statement. An explanation. Not total avoidance and censorship of opposing views. That being said, this is a management issue, and the pets in this shelter should not have to suffer because of this. Please continue to adopt and foster these innocent pets that get dropped off here. While I might be bit weary of monetary donations, donations of goods, food, toys and volunteering your time is important to these pets. Also check out the pipsqueakery hamster rescue and consider either donating or adopting one of the several male or now-motherless baby hamsters they took in. EDIT: NOT ONLY ARE THEY DELETING AND BLOCKING ANY NEGATIVE REVIEWS ON FACEBOOK, THEY ARE GETTING GOOGLE REVIEWS DELETED AND OTHER SITES DELETED. NO STATEMENT HAS BEEN MADE...
Read moreI may be biased from volunteering at this location since I was a teenager, but Flagler Humane Society always has a special place in my heart. From the extra steps they take to take care of each and every animal in a special way to the creativity and resourcefulness offered by staff members from both within and without, FHS never fails to amaze me. FHS is constantly a part of the local community, ever-present at events all over town with fur babies ready for new homes. FHS's foster program seeks to keep animals in socialized environments to grow up healthy and happy outside of the hustle and bustle of the shelter and hopefully begin moving towards a good home with strong social skills at the end of the day (which was a huge success during the beginning of COVID, if I remember correctly!). FHS is extremely thorough with their adoption process and knows the ins and outs of scanning potential abusers, neglecters, dog fighters, and puppy mills/unconventional breeders, down to the point of working closely with Flagler County Animal Services and conducting in-home background checks. FHS is always open to new fosters and loves to work with local children and teens (of course, with an adult present) who would like to gain more volunteer hours through a happy cause, including offers for dog-walking or kitten socialization. FHS is not limited specifically to dogs and cats--in my time volunteering there, I've also seen plenty of bunnies, guinea pigs, cockatoos, assorted little birds, and, on one occasion, an extremely sizeable python. FHS is a no-kill shelter and does everything in their power to protect the animals who come to them--something very difficult in the current shelter system. I have nothing but the utmost respect for FHS and thank them so much for the opportunities they offered me for such an important...
Read moreSaying goodbye to our Jack Russell, TJ, was one of the hardest decisions we’ve ever had to make. After 13 wonderful years, we knew his little sick body was tired, and it was time to give him the peace he deserved. The team at Flagler Humane Society made this heartbreaking moment as gentle and loving as possible.
From the moment we walked in, we were met with compassion. The staff treated TJ with such care, as though he were their own. They reassured us every step of the way, reminding us that we were making the best decision for his comfort and peace. Their kindness gave us the strength we needed during such a fragile time.
The room was calm, the process was peaceful, and TJ passed surrounded by love. It was exactly what we hoped his final moments would be—free from pain and full of dignity. We are forever grateful to the incredible people at Flagler Humane Society for their support and for the gentle way they helped us say goodbye to our boy.
If you’re ever faced with this difficult decision, I cannot recommend them enough. They offer not only professional care but also genuine compassion, which makes all the difference in moments like these. Not a single brow was raised at the snot spilling down my face. Our lovely medical assistant was Hailey, I believe. And the other wonderful technician, gosh I wish I had your name to fully give you the grace and kudos you deserve. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you.
Thank you, Flagler Humane Society, for everything you do—not just for our family but for so...
