Palm Springs Windmill Tour: 🌟 Title: “A Fascinating Journey Through Renewable Energy” My wife and I recently embarked on the Self-Driving Windmill Tour with Palm Springs. adventure began at the tour center, where we received an email confirmation, an app download, and clear instructions. Amir, our guide, was incredibly helpful throughout the experience. The tour took us through the first commercial wind farm in Southern California, where we explored ten marked destinations.
Here are the highlights: Historical Artifacts: The journey started with a display yard featuring artifacts from the 1980s, showcasing both successful and failed wind turbine designs. It was fascinating to see how far wind energy has come.
Up Close with Wind Turbines: As we drove through the wind farm, we marveled at the massive operating wind turbines—some towering over 400 feet! We snapped pictures and learned about their inner workings.
Indigo Energy Facility: The tour concluded with a stop at the Indigo Energy Facility, a natural gas peaker power plant. Understanding the synergy between renewable energy and traditional sources was eye-opening.
Amir’s assistance went beyond the tour itself. When our car got stuck briefly, he promptly helped us out, ensuring our experience remained positive. The cost was reasonable—$59 for two adults.
Overall, the Palm Springs Windmill Tour is a must-do for anyone interested in renewable energy. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, this tour provides valuable insights into sustainable practices. Kudos to Amir and the team for an educational and enjoyable outing! 👏

Read moreEvery time I would drive by these Windmills on the way to Palm Springs I was always curious to see them up close and learn more. Finally I decided to take a tour and see what it was all about.
The tour is $49 for two adults in their car, kids 12 and under are free. Each additional adult in the car is $10 per person. I recommend downloading the ‘Palm Spring Windmill Tours’ app. You will need it to do the tour properly. (They have WiFi at the ‘tour center’ that you can use to download the app as well).
Tip: If you only want to take photos of the windmills you can do so outside of the fence (they say that it’s for insurance reasons). If you’re not interested in renewable energy or wind turbines this is a good choice for you because you’ll find the tour quite boring.
The tour begins with being checked in at the Tour Center. (We purchased our tickets here as a walk in instead of buying them ahead of time). Here you’ll find some informative signs along the wall as well as watch a 13 minute video about Windmills and renewable energy. After you’re done exploring the Tour Center you can get into your vehicle, open the app and drive around the property. You will drive slowly along a dirt road. We would pull over and listen to the audio guide and then get out and take photos.
Definitely loved the ‘date shake’ they recommended we grab after the tour. It was our first ones ever so we’re glad we...
Read moreThis tour was excellent and very informative. I took the tour last Friday, and there were about 6 other people in the tour. The tour guide began by telling us that we could interrupt him whenever we wanted if we had a question, and he would answer us the best he could. There was an engineer in the tour group who asked many complex questions which were all efficiently answered by the tour guide. Next, he showed us many pictures and told us about the history of windmills. There were about 25 different pictures which went from showing a windmill design from 1905 to the way windmills work today. He told us about the failures and the learning experiences. After this, he took us to a modern, new bus to take us around the Coachella Valley, the nearest wind farm. The one bad experience I had was that the bus was a little rickety as we drove. However, they helped fix this by adding in a powerful microphone and speaker. We even got very close to a windmill! Then, we arrived back at the tour place and the man thanked us for coming, and we were out of there. They also supplied free water fresh from a fridge and a vending machine to get any soft drinks! Overall, this was an excellent tour worthy of an...
