Grand Valley Recreation Center — Local services in Parachute

We love going to the rec center when the grandkids are in town. However since we are not community members it is a bit pricey, nearly $70 for a party of six. The pool was very cold and felt great on the hot July day we went. Temperatures were in the 100s so we were thrilled at how cool and clean everything was. There's a little playground outside which, after a couple of hours of swimming, my grandchildren enjoyed playing on. There is some shade where the playground equipment is and that was very nice. There's also a gazebo type place with tables and chairs so we were able to sit outside and enjoy the shade and a cool breeze. The staff was very polite and extremely friendly to our little ones. As this rec center is not in our town, our plan was to shower, change clothes and go out to supper, when we were finished swimming. Unfortunately the showers only had cold water so we were unable to get cleaned up the way we wanted to for dinner. Also, the hot tub jets were out of order and the water was barely lukewarm. Private swim lessons worked out well. I had two of my boys take them. The private boxing classes are great. Bobby is a great guy. Unfortunately the weight room was filled with men who were so doused with man perfume that I couldn’t breathe and almost had an asthma attack. The perfume is so strong that it coats the mouth and nose as if you ate it. Even putting tissue over my nose and mouth didn’t help. One guy was dropping weights on the machines from the top as if he was trying to break it. It was so difficult to get in a work out with stuff being dropped and the axe body spray in my mouth. Since they don’t let you try it out I was forced to buy a month. I went once and decided the weight room was too stinky with man perfume. I also had to deal with a couple of teenage girls staring and mocking me. One hour was all I could do. I’ll keep paying for the private lessons for my kids but the weight room isn’t anything worth paying for. Since the private lessons aren’t included in the membership we can still do...

Use to be a 5 star but verry dissapointed i was not allowed to play marco polo with my children because they had life vest/floaties on! If your child gets a little to far from arms reach they will scream and embarrass you in front of all other people who are there.When i called to ask if they changed their rules i was told she would like it if children with life vests/floaties were not able to swim due to their need. If your having a birthday party at the swimming pool better make sure the parents want to get wet or else all kids who cant swim will have to sit out and you paid all that money...
