First off, the people that work there are absolutely amazing, now and in the past. Prengers stepped in and took over Hickman IGA several years ago and have since lost alot of local support. Their Centralia Prengers is a night and day difference from the Paris location. Failing front doors and computer systems took a back seat to a new beer barn and liquor, replacing food products shortly after the take over. I think that was their first big mistake, as customers still fight with the doors with their carts and buy their beer from the gas station across the street. Locals, travelers and vacationers alike loved the hot meals, but when the fryer went out, so did the meals and fresh deli items. Second mistake. As someone else has mentioned, name brands were either replaced with generic imitations or no longer carried as prices jumped( ex. $5.88+- for a small loaf of keto bread). 3rd mistake. I have purchased "fresh" pork steak, on more than one occasion that were sticky and smelled rotten, premade cakes...moldy. The latest were their Fricks hams out of Washington Mo, now replaced with an off brand that doesnt even smell or taste like pork, Cooks I believe? Which is also Smithfield. Its really unfortunate, but the above average prices is why many are now going to the new DG Market. I truly hope the owner starts thinking about the community needs instead of the vacationers. Maybe a new grand opening? Maybe a contract with local farmers?...Something, anything, to let the local community know they value their support. I still shop there from time to time for the convenience, and thankful they are hanging in there but its not too late to make...

Before prengers moved in here the employees were friendly and the store had that small town charm. No longer. If not an emergency i will shop...
