I had an experience with this center over 2 years ago that still eats at me to this day. My grandmother was placed in this center and to put it lightly, the level of neglect here was outstanding. Prior to her stay, my grandmother was admitted at a near by hospital where the staff was more than attentive to her, especially with the fact that she does not speak English. Being my grandmother's advocate, I voiced my concerns of her current delicate state and how I expected a certain level of care when it comes to cleaning an elderly female with a UTI, amongst many other medical conditions she had at that time. When my grandmother arrived to Troy Hills on a Friday evening we were told we would not have to worry about having her be changed as the staff here was as attentive, if not more, than her recent hospital stay. I arrived the very next day to be met with my grandmother covered in her own feces and urine, wearing the same patient gown and diaper from her previous hospital stay and not a single CNA to be found. I managed to find a nurse, specifically Nurse Josephine, and asked for help to which she rudely replied, while looking down at her phone "what do you want from me?" I asked her the reasoning for my grandmother's current state and was told "She doesn't speak English, what do you want me to do? I asked her if she needed to be changed and she said no." Is that really an appropriate way to handle an elderly person who isn't in their right state of mind and can't even communicate in their own language? Said Nurse is not able to simply check the patient's diaper? Then I was told by Nurse Josephine that I need to be more appreciative since they were "short staffed". I'm sorry but short staffed does not equate to incompetency either. Of course, politeness, being soft spoken and understanding got me no where until I finally broke and asked for Nurse Josephine's NPI number and informed the center I am a professional myself and work in relation and have connection with the Department of Health and Social Services and could have/should have reported this incident to a higher power for neglect and prejudice behavior. Suddenly and "coincidentally" Nurse Josephine couldn't handle the situation at hand and the incident escalated to the point where the DON at that time had to step in to do damage control -- which I appreciated given the fact that the DON had an accent herself so she was even more understanding of our language barrier and disclosed with me that Nurse Josephine's actions was unbecoming and unprofessional. I will not name her as I see she is not employed with the center anymore but that DON took the time out of her Saturday to come and clean up my grandmother with me. Something I'm sure Nurse Josephine could not fathom but I will always appreciate that DON for her act of service and humility.

I've waited 2 years to write this and 2 years later I'm still disappointed with Nurse Josephine who never apologized to my family and I for her lack of care and professionalism. I remember when the center called me after my grandmother was discharged asking me for a review. It was comical to say the least.

Hopefully Nurse Josephine enjoys reading this review -- that's if she even cares. As a medical professional, you may not remember the patient but as a patient they will never forget you and how you...

When my mother was first admitted, I was thinking what a great place this is. However, my opinion CHANGED DRAMATICALLY over the course of her stay (even though it was only for 6.5 days).

With the exception of two of the aides and one of the nurses, the level of care was unsatisfactory. If I hadn't been there from 9am to 8pm (or whenever they threw me out), my mom would have sat in a dirty diaper for hours and hours on end. Even after I requested that they change her, the usual response was "Okay, I will tell X to do it". Of course, "X" never came. Also, they were asked to shift my mom's position every few hours...that never happened either. There were many other simple requests such as "please put in mom's hearing aid and dentures in the morning" that were ignored most of the time.

The doctor didn't come to see my mother until her fifth day there - this is unacceptable. (Some kind of a Nurse Practioner saw her - but sorry, that's not a doctor.} The doctor never followed up with me, even after repeated requests.

Also, they did not not do bloodwork until her fourth day there and they had no plans to follow-up at some point with another set of bloodwork. They started giving my mom Procrit (for low hemoglobin), but they didn't follow-up to discuss it being given to her going forward. They also said that she might have pneumonia, but did nothing to confirm or treat it. Getting information from anyone was next to impossible.

The dietician never once came to see my mom or to speak with me (even though I left many, many messages both on the phone and with the staff). They were giving my mother food that she would NEVER eat - some of it due to religious beliefs.

The rooms (double occupancy) are small and dreary. They definitely need to to upgraded and brought up to modern standards. (They were kept relatively clean though.)

I've left numerous messages with administration, head of nursing, and others who are "in charge" at this facility. I'm still waiting to see if anyone gets back to me. Believe me, I will be contacting Genesis about this poorly run facility.

The ONLY bright of the stay was the caring and wonderful staff of the Rehabilitation Department and also the staff in the Social Services Department. They were all very knowledgeable, helpful, kind and dedicated. (They are the only reason that I'm not giving this...

Background: My Aunt is in the Center's Rehab. She is currently respite as they were prepared to release her with a home-health nurse, regardless of her cognitive issues and her apprehension in walking with her walker alone. She has no children, so my brother and I are it. He is on tour. I work two jobs. I flew down there and it is obvious she needs assisted living so we decided to bring her to Florida and find a place close by.

The nurses, the individual I worked with in the business office, and the therapists were great. Otherwise, I have had nothing but obstacles working with the Center. 1. They often do not answer the phones, so if I need something I'm out of luck. 2. The assisted living facility - Waterman Village's Bridgewater, one of the nicest here in Florida - has been trying to reach them to confirm some medical issues on the 1823. They too cannot get a hold of the Center. 3. I am flying my Aunt here. I informed them I would have medical transport (a home health aide and a driver) and checked with Jet Blue who are happy to arrange disability services when we book the flight. I will meet her here. She will never be alone on this flight. That was not good enough for them - you know, the people that were going to send her home. They wanted the discharge plan in writing with all of the contact information. Yet they never made an effort to assist with a discharge plan until I started to get frustrated with them. 4. The new administrator is short and condescending. 5. This is the second time my Aunt is there and both times the Social Worker was reluctant to help with travel - and the first time was only to her apartment about three miles away. I am fed up with the unnecessary amount of time and energy they have added to an already challenging situation. I would look for another place. I will probably still be trying to get my...
