I went on a guided hike at Ice Mountain with a group of friends on 6/9/18. Scheduling the hike was super easy through the online form. The directions on the website were also very helpful as GPS and cell signal are hard to come by in this area and there is no signage on the road. Our docent/guide, Gil, met us at the old Inn and gave us a brief history lesson of the historical significance of the North River Mills area. For such a humble place it has been quite an important location over the years.

The first part of the hike took us to the Raven Rock overlook, which was stunning. Along the way Gil stopped to give us bits of information about the geological and botanical significance of where we were and what we were seeing. Then we descended down the trail to the river side and hiked to the cold air vents, stopping to admire some of the rare flora and fauna along the way. Gil continued to be very knowledgeable about everything we passed. The cold air vents were quite amazing to experience. While we didn't see any ice from our vantage point, the temperature gauge Gil had measured as cold as 40 degrees in some spots (it was a 78 degree day).
The entire hike took just over 2 hours, but this included lots of stops to rest and enjoy the scenery. It was a wonderful way to spend a...
