Gladstan Golf Course — Local services in Payson

"Update"

After my initial online review, I spoke with the clubhouse in depth about the problems with booking and their pay system. Gladstan is in the process of creating a software platform to allow different people to pay.

I learned that do to inconsiderate entitled golfers who book several tee times a day and then only show up to one, the golf course lost an great deal of revenue. Gladstan was forced to move to the online booking prepay system to combat this selfish inconsiderate way of booking a tee time.

The new software will make booking a time much easier, and Gladstan is a great course to play. I still feel like holes #14 & #15 are poorly designed, but playing in the fall provides incredible views of both the changing colors and the valley.

While the golf course design and playability is great, the process of booking a tee time and working with the club house is onerous and unfriendly. There is NO option to book a time for a single, I play alone frequently and my only choice after speaking to the club house was to "show up and hope I can get out". My suggestion that Gladstan could be a bit more accommodating to single players fell on deaf ears and was received with indifference and rudeness.

Additionally, when I do play with friends or clients, the person booking the time is forced to prepay for everyone (4 golfers playing 18 holes with carts is around $200.00), with NO option that allows cancellation without a fee (either 7% before 24 hours or 25% after that), or for the people golfing with you to pay using their own payment methods, which is very frustrating! I know there is VENMO and other payment methods between friends...but there are many reasons and scenarios where this doesn't work. I know several programmers and software professionals who could fix this in a day and provide a payment system that works for everyone.

One more item...on certain days and times if a golfer wants to play only 9 holes you still have to pay for 18, even if the course is open. I thought the point of online booking and technology was to make it easier for the business and the end user. This system only benefits Gladstan and provides no options or flexibility for paying customers.

In a world so tech savvy and filled with options, combined with an industry steeped in history, honesty, integrity and professional service, this just doesn't dovetail. Recently, I've noticed other courses that are so busy you have to book three weeks in advance and they don't allow cancellations or refunds, which seems very unreasonable. While Gladstan doesn't practice this, the other items, to me at lease don't add up. Sorry Gladstan, this is a golf-swing and a miss!

It's off putting and frustrating for the end user. Its a "we don't care" attitude that reflects badly on the course and leaves the end user feeling unwanted. I know businesses are in business to make money, however; this new system makes it very clear its all about the money with no thought to the people who end up paying the price and support the business or in this case Gladstan...

I don’t do reviews, but we had a deeply disappointing experience at Gladstan. As out-of-town visitors, we booked and prepaid for 18 holes walking online. Upon arrival, the employee, Tanner, informed us we had to start on the back 9 which was no problem. He then said the back 9 is cart-only, and charged an additional $24 for a cart despite no mention of this requirement on the website. When I questioned this, he dismissively suggested walking the front 9 twice, which wasn’t what I booked. Reluctantly, we paid the extra fee so we could play what we booked.

Tanner then said we could “walk or use the cart for the front 9,” which we understood as a goodwill gesture. However, after one hole on the front 9, a marshal confronted us for using the cart, forcing us to return it, retrieved my push cart from my car, and trek back to the 2nd hole. This interruption was frustrating and was so weird that we were being monitored mid-round. Whatever, we moved on and finished our round

However, as we were leaving, Tanner approached us literally in the parking lot as we were about to drive away, and we thought he was going to offer an apology. Boy were we wrong. He accused us of “stealing” the $24 cart use, despite his own unclear communication and despite the cart being returned per their wishes. Being accused of theft as a paying customer, especially after such a poorly handled situation, was outrageous and unprofessional. Tanner does not know me or my character. The lack of clear policies, poor communication, and confrontational attitude made this a 1-star experience. Save your money and play at Hobble Creek instead. Payson, UT is not...

I had a horrible experience from start to finish with the staff at Gladstan. I had called the day before, but we weren’t sure when we were going to be able to get off work and get down there. They told me that they were wide open and they shouldn’t have any problems getting us out. Then when we got there the head pro told us that they were completely booked and was very condescending in his language as he told us we should have made a tee time. He did agree to send us out the back 9, though, so we moved on with no problems. We re-rounded on the front 9, and it was very slow. We finally ran into a complete log jam on the par 3 6th. It was getting dark, so we decided to improvise. We skipped ahead and played number 9 while we waited for 6 to clear. Then we played 6 and 7 with no issues, but ran back into the jam on 8. We decided to just play 7 again as our 18th hole, otherwise we would not finish before dark. After we teed off the head pro came driving up and accused us of stealing and told us to leave the course. When we tried to explain the situation he interrupted me and said that he didn’t care and we needed to leave. We made several other attempts to reason with him, but it ended with tempers flaring and choice words being exchanged on both sides. I have never had a member of the golf course staff, let alone the head pro, be so rude. We will not be returning to...
