I stopped shopping here regularly months ago because of issues with spoiled produce (pears), rancid meat (pork), milk with an off "chemical-like" taste (Harrisburg Dairies), general cleanliness (there is always a strong rotting fish/ammonia-like stench near the seafood), and the fact that, at any given time, at least 3 of the self-checkouts are down, and the only one that's ever up and running doesn't accept cash.
Although I now drive 30 minutes to Weis or Giant for my regular groceries, I occasionally have to shop here when I need one or two things, but this store has gotten so bad that I might just avoid it entirely. Yesterday, I ran out of coffee filters, and instead of wasting a trip for one cheap item, I also grabbed a Tastykake lemon pie. As soon as I opened the package, I could smell that something wasn't right. The crust was stale and smelled awful, and the filling was so dried out that it felt like rubber from a car tire.
No, a stale pie isn't the end of the world, but the fact is that for every 5 items you buy (most of which are way overpriced anyway), you're now likely to end up throwing at least one of them straight into the trash. I used to go back to return these poor-quality items, but, frankly, I'm tired of the hassle.
I've also seen a dramatic decrease in basic customer service skills and grooming habits of employees. Every worker I encounter near the refrigerated section seems to reek of body odor, while the workers at the self-checkout area have poor social skills. The older ones are alright, but the young ones don't even say hi or thanks for coming in. They either glare at you with that vacant "Gen Z stare" or are too engrossed with talking to their friends to acknowledge your presence.
Despite an abundance of recent negative reviews, many of which point out these very same issues, management appears to have no interest in addressing these problems. I guess they feel that since they're the only game in town, they can get away with it. And maybe they can. But, as for me, I'll gladly drive to Enola, if only to deal with employees who know how to shower and management who knows how to keep a...
Read moreEver since it changed hands, prices have risen big time.. $3.69 for a 2liter? Really? And they call that a "sale!" they put in all these "self-checkout" and little TV advertisement screens in the aisles and only got 1-2 people ringing people up.. kind of a shame really.. if they spent less $ on TV screens and more on their workers maybe it wouldn't take 10min to get through the line and wouldn't need to jack prices up so much. Also, I know for a fact that the meats are a bit of a scam now, the 85% lean burger is now more like 75% lean based on the enormously larger amount of grease that comes off when cooked, and I've recently bought a "5lb bag chicken drumsticks" that is pre-weighed and that they just scan the barcode and ring you up only to bring it home and find the bag to be half-full of water and when the actual chicken is taken out and weighed its only 3.5lb. (Not 5lb) so if you're buying chicken make them take the pieces off the shelf and bag/weigh it in front of you so you can see what you're getting (they don't like that btw) but unless you like being ripped-off you need to insist! It's hard to prove the whole lean/fat content of the burger (which is why they do it) but with the pre-bagged chicken you can test it yourself with a food-scale or any other very accurate weighing-device. Only reason this isn't 1-star is because I realize this is Biden's-america and the store owners are doing what they feel they must in order to make a profit under the circumstances. But I'd prefer honesty and higher prices (meats) as opposed to shady dealings and seemingly lower prices.. but the 2 liters should NEVER cost more than $2/each and charging any more than than for them is just...
Read moreI don't know how to explain it but ever since they've changed hands from the previous store that was in Duncannon everything is absolutely too expensive and on the verge of me not shopping there and the way that they price things like two for 6 or two for five is confusing and I'm sure it's meant to be that way so that you don't catch it at the cash register the same way Dollar General operates when you first yourself right out of the market you're eventually going to have to lower prices quit playing with the people that made your business grow in the first place every one of us has got to put our foot down and say we're not paying these prices or suppliers are not going to give us these prices and you all need to be quit being greedy for...
