We discovered this important and impressive historical place quite by accident as we took the backroads on a recent Southwest Michigan excursion. Tours were not open at the time — but the weather was beautiful and grounds were recently mowed & manicured so we got out and walked around the perimeter of the beautiful home and captured several images with great outdoor lighting from above. We’ve made a note to return for a tour after reading a couple of online resources about this historic location. For anyone interested in Michigan History, Historic Preservation and more importantly the history of the Underground Railroad this is a must see venue!

Excellent experience. Important history and culture filled within this house. Our family was just passing through the area and came across this house. Underground railroad type of history. We stopped and we were offered a tour of the home. Beautiful and a great deal of knowledge! I would recommend touring it. They are open during limited times so I would recommend calling beforehand.

Amazing experience learning about the history of the underground railroad. Inspirational commitment from the local volunteers to preserve this place the the stories of the people who passed through.

I am a proud of this part of Vandalia’s history, but I am sad that what is a symbol of freedom is taking away freedom by requiring its guests to wear mask. My friends traveled a distance to visit and were refused entrance due to no mask. I don’t think any other businesses in the area are requiring mask at this time. Where have all our...
