Axe Handle Distilling — Local services in Pennington Gap

Planned a trip through a few states and decided to grab some whiskey along the way.

Axe Handle Distilling was the shining star of this trip and I almost missed it. This place wasn't on my agenda but I took their "distillery now open" sign as a metaphorical sign, popped a U-Turn and fortunately for me they were open before noon.

5 FREE tastings of their very own Whiskey, Bourbon, Gin, and Vodka. Each were fantastic, smooth, full of flavor, and the prices are excellent!! I walked out with 3 bottles; rye, vodka, and marine strength gin.

Their distiller knows his stuff, he was friendly, and made sure I was taken care of. I only wish I could have stayed for the bluegrass band. Call me crazy but I will find my way back.

An amazing experience. The bartenders are friendly, take time to carefully make beautiful cocktails, and there is no television! All drinks use fresh fruit, their delicious spirits, and home made syrups. It is dog friendly and there is live Bluegrass music on Fridays. Choose carefully, you are only allowed 2 drinks - total. We met the owner who has a log home business next door. Really friendly and one can see he took a lot of care in building this distillery. I hope April, the bartender, has her baby by now! Bryan and the team here were fantastic all weekend. We enjoyed our tour and learned a lot. We enjoyed the sampling of various stages of the products. The live music on Friday night was fantastic and really set a great atmosphere to enjoy food from the fundraiser and drinks from the bar. Children were out playing on the lawn.
