We took our girls 12 and 13 to try out their new mermaid tails and mono fins. It was hilarious and they had a fun time laughing and playing with the other kids there! The 12 yr old found some big & small Hermit crabs that, of course, she wanted to keep and bring home...but after playing with them for a while she agreed they needed to stay in the ocean!! 🐚🦀 I did see a little crab running on the bottom of the ocean not too far from the beach. And I found a shell that was about the size of my fist that was completely whole!! And empty!!! It was a little slippery and green but I could see it had beautiful colors underneath and elongated spikes that went from top to bottom in a few places all around the shell. I laid it on my blanket where we had our stuff laid out and went to build a sandcastle. I am not a good swimmer so while my hubby was trying his luck fishing for a giant "anything", 🤭 and the girls were playing, I tried to "float" all my aches and pains away in the warm water and overcast sky!! 😂 The youngest one played on the playground for a while as we gathered our things to leave. I was so very sad when I realized that the beautiful, once in my lifetime she'll find was no where to be found! It was empty so it didn't just walk off.... someone had to have taken it...😭 My oldest said maybe one of the little kids saw it while playing in the sand and didn't just "steal" it. 🙏🏻 I only wish they had a concession stand or snack/drink machines!!...
Read moreThis is a well maintained small beach area at Keaton Beach, Hodges Park, along Florida's nature coast. There are two observation towers overlooking the Gulf of Mexico and a very nice well maintained beach area, small but very nice! One of the best things about Keaton beach is a very nice wide and long fishing pier or relaxing walk, at the end of the pier is a covered area with benches. There are covered picnic areas and picnic tables. Lots of parking is available. It was a weekday when we were there and it was not crowded at all. Outdoor shower to rinse the sand off. Overall probably the nicest beach along the nature coast north of Shired Island. Don't miss visiting...
Read moreThe beach is overall very messy. The restrooms make grocery story bathrooms look like a luxury. Men's stall (only one) has no lock, floors are very messy, and it is extremely easy for anyone to see through the door as it is extremely short. Grills are so dirty that cleaning them is a lost cause, and the seats and tables are the same way. The only good thing I can say about this is the pier, which seems to be more well maintained (although not enough) and there are handles for fishing rods to be inserted, which comes in handy for fishing; the waters have scarce but worthwhile catches, and the scenery is very beautiful and relaxing. If only the place surrounding it...
