Let me start off by saying.... HANDS DOWN! DVSC IS the BEST range you will EVER go to! (Unless you can shoot on your own property, of course)
I WAS a MEMBER at classic pistol and had wanted to shoot on Saturday but it was 5pm and they were closed so I searched the web and came across DVSC (which is only a 10min drive from my house) and not only are they open till 9pm but are OPEN SUNDAY TILL 6!! IT DONT GET NO BETTER THAN THAT!?
So I go over to check it out and never being there before I walk in and instantly am greeted at the door with smiles laughter and being welcomed and just felt comfortable not at on edge or anything weird it just felt right... What it truely felt was as if my family had owned the shop and was going in to see my family! THATS how they make EVERYONE who comes in feel! They don't talk down to you if you ask a si ole question or try to make you feel stupid because as the owner Tony ( great outstanding stand up guy btw.. As is his brother Joey) said "Jim no question is a dumb question don't ever be afraid to ask us anything!"
So I get to the range and it's packed which shows how well the business is running. I talked to a man who I now know as Gene and who I see and bust balls with every weekend (another great guy) and he helped me fill out my paper work for me my brother and friend. We got in and as we were waiting to have an open lane I start to look around see prices, deals, and THE AMAZING LOW LOW LOW COST OF A MEMBER SHIP! (Nearly half of others member ship prices) and I said to gene hey what's up with memberships I think I might join. (And I'm sure he hears that everyday but some do sign up and some give a run around)so He said "you might sign up or want to sign up today?
I stopped for only a split second before blurting out "lets get the paperwork started" even though I couldn't really afford to spend the $195 membership fee I had an impulse buy and let me tell you I have been a member for past 3 months and I GO EVERY SINGLE DAY! ( except Sunday's) I'm known as " Ten trip jimmy or ten gun jimmy) we did the paperwork and gene said hey man your a member now relax do what you want and it just made me feel so much more welcome than I had already felt (yeah I didn't think was possible either lol) and they got me in the range right away! I've only missed 9 days in the last 3 months due to being in the Bahamas but besides that I have been there everyday and have gotten to be super close and friendly with EVERY SINGLE one of the staff! INCLUDING THE AWESOME KNOWLEDGABLE RANGE OFFICER AL! (Another great guy.. But they again they all are)
I never once felt unwelcomed or was talked down to or felt weird in ANY WAY! NEVER EVER!! I've even hung around till after closing just bullshitting with the boss man tony his brother Joey, Practial joker Tom and the very informative NRA instructor Jim Boyle (all great guys) just last night it was us 4 and my younger brother in their and I had purchased a handgun from Jim and we hung out a little late and I just felt like I was a part of the team! Like they are my family! And now I can say proudly that I AM a part of the DVSC FAMILY! Even from day one never being there before and I had felt at home at ease and just welcomed and accepted! And that's saying something... Other ranges I've been to they either ignore you when trying to sign up to shoot or they just make you feel inferior for asking a question and THAT IS NOT the case here!
Example of the amazing owner tony and something to speak to his character.. They take last shooter a hour b4 closing. I didn't get in till 10 after 8 as with a couple others and he kept saying sorry for the inconveince and gave us all a free soda and water for the wait... Something that small saying a lot about a person ESP the owner! Speaks to his character and how he was raised and he's a great upstanding man!
I could go on forever but I hit my character limit so I have to stop and post lol.. Great people great place great deals and great fun! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND DVSC! You will NOT be disappointed!

Long review ahead:
I had never fired a gun before when I went here.
I'm respectfully hesitant in regard to guns. Before arriving here, I listened and practiced gun safety at home under the supervision of someone who safely handles guns. It's a practical skill to learn, so I want to actually practice. But so far, I had only 'textbook' experience.
I arrived here with another person and was nervous. I'd never fired a gun before and I was worried I'd hurt someone or myself. Maybe I was too nervous about it.
We pay to get in the range, we put our protective ear coverings on, and we go inside. I got even more nervous.
Once inside, it's loud. I knew it would be. But even through the ear plugs and muffs, it's loud. One of the others inside the range must have been firing high-ish caliber ammo, because it's really loud and it's indoors, so each shot is like thunder. I flinch with every shot, like, a full-body jump. Every shot.
I got overwhelmed. After being inside the range for five minutes, I walked back out. Never even got to load the gun.
The person I came in with handled checking out/returning gear. Me, I stood off to the side, shaking and quietly crying from how overwhelmed I was from the noise, and how stupid and silly I felt for not even being able to fire a single shot.
One of the men behind the counter noticed me crying, an older guy. Gently calls me over and tells me it's okay. That it's okay to be scared and overwhelmed, that I wasn't silly or stupid. He talks to me in nice, low, calm tones. I was still crying a bit, but I felt better. The other men from behind the counter chime in and reassure me, too, that firing a gun was scary to some and that I'm not the only person that's felt this way.
I give this place 5 stars for this. Granted, the process of actually checking in was very straightforward and easy, so on a technical level, 5 stars is appropriate. But the 5 stars from me is mainly because of how kind and understanding the people working there were to me. I was in the range just 5 minutes, and was too chicken to fire even a simple 9mm. But the men working there were so kind. It really meant a lot to me.
So thank you for that experience. This actually happened a couple years ago, I had hesitated to write a review because of how silly I still feel about this story. I'm still a bit too yellow-bellied to fire in an indoor range. But their reassurance is extremely appreciated. I still think about this experience...
Read moreThis is a great range. Staff is super friendly, and eager to welcome anyone to wonderful world of shooting. I'm still fairly new to the "gun culture", but in my experience most shops/ranges treat you like an idiot if you go in asking questions that are considered basic. Not here. The staff will take the time to explain all of the ins and outs of any firearm you may bring or want to buy/rent/check out. They never rush you. They never look at you with that "Oh, God, you don't even know how to do xxxxx......." look that you get at so many other establishments. You can bring your own ammo. And their prices aren't much more than what you'd find at your local Walmart. Awesome. They have really great ffl transfer fees. They have a ton of different rental guns available so you can try before you buy. The yearly membership costs are the most reasonable I've found. Like most ranges, safety takes top priority. However, at DVSC you probably won't have to deal with militant range officers breathing down your neck every time you blink an eye. As long as your following the rules posted in every lane, you're fine. Range is clean. Hours are decent as well. Just wish they opened at 10am everyday so I could shoot before work. Lol. Great place to learn to shoot. Great place to enhance your skills if you have already learned to shoot. Great range, good shop, best staff at any range/shop that I've ever been to, decent prices all add up to this being the best range in the area. I'm a member now, will be until I move too far away, and then I'll be bummed out that I can't make it over there anymore. Highly...
