Ben Avery has 11 ranges total, Firearms and archery. Also one of the only places in the western US you can shoot from horseback (Firearms and archery). I frequent the 100 and 200 yard rifle range. Ben Avery is closed Mondays and you can make reservations for Saturday and Sunday a day in advance. Midweek is first come first serve, and they don't take reservations. They have nice shooting stalls that are covered and shaded, with built in concrete shooting tables and 2 stools per table. The range uses wooden frames with cardboard (provided) that you can tape your own paper targets onto (not provided but they do sell targets at the store on site, they have masking tape provided to tape up targets). Shot guns are allowed with bird shot and they have special rebar frames so the wood won't get destroyed. 50bmg is NOT allowed. Pistols are allowed and there are frame holders at the following distances ; 5yds 10yds 15 yds 25yds 50yds 100yds 200yds. There are always multiple range safety officers on site and they clear everyone's weapon so that shooters can go down range and reset targets etc. They normally shoot for 15 minutes then take some time to clear and reset then another 15 minutes of live fire. They can be bossy but it's all in the name of safety and if you follow the few basic rules you won't have an issue. This is a good place to bring new shooters and introduce the to the sport. Kids are welcome and closed toes shoes are reccomended but not required. You must have ear and eye pro to be in the range area, they have both for sale in the store if you happen to forget anything. Benchrests/sleds for rifles are available for rental as well. Nice clean indoor bathrooms also on site and ample parking with handicapped spaces. This range is wheelchair friendly to the shooting benches but the range side where the targets go is dirt. They still operate in the rain as well which is actually a good experience. This place is open all year just check the website for operating hours as they change seasonally. Reservations reccomended for Saturday or Sunday. You can pay online and walk directly to the range desk which saves time, arrive 15 minutes before your reservation to be ahead...
Read moreI have seen a lot of bad reviews concerning staff, and unprofessional-ism, however anyone that actually understands firearms would disagree, safety is a primary concern, and on a range with many loaded guns, attention to everyone cannot always be subtle, one mistake and someone does not make it home to their family. They do have an instructional video that you can view online as well as at the facility, that covers all range instructions. Now if many of those that gave negative remarks, please ask yourself this question, are you one that assume you know every safety rule, and make claim that you don't need to be reminded? if so you have not practiced rand safety and are overconfident. Please understand just because you may have military or police experience does not mean you don't need a refresher, focusing and understanding if you make a mistake it could cost someone grave injury or their life. Now if you find the comment I made offensive, well let me bust your bubble I was in the Armed Forces 18 years to be exact, and I know that just because someone served doesn't mean they know or understand weapons, I see a lot of individuals that did not qualify or pulled a "Gomer Pyle" in fact someone did it to me in the military, so take the range and the personnel serious, they are helpful, and will assist you if you have issues, you as a shooter must be vigilant, and pay attention to the commands, as there are many individuals at one time at that range, and you as a shooter also have a responsibility to warn others of safety violations, as I have seen many that bring AR15's and don't know how to lock the bolt back, let alone site them in. The staff are friendly, even some of the older shooters. For those that have never shot before I recommend Ben Avery, however don't do as the complainers, and not read or review the Video or website information. Stay safe and...
Read moreI have been coming to this place for almost 2 years. Every single time I come, I am treated with the utmost disrespect. From the rangemasters constantly badgering me under the guise of "safety", to them now getting belligerent in my face. As soon as I stepped on range, i took my weapons to the table and started unboxing. Here comes the first range master, "Make sure your weapons are pointed down range when you open the case." Literally had 3 guns already on the table, slides and bolts locked to the rear with no mags in. Very visible. 5 minutes before ceasefire. Then, they tried to force me to sweep up the brass. First, I hope there are cameras so you can see everything. I dont need to lie. There was brass ALLL around my table when i first got there and I swept it up. AS A COURTESY. I dont work there, so i dont have to sweep it. I honestly had no problem getting the brass up until the short old angry white bitter man tried to tell me what to do like im his employee or something. And the manner in which he spoke to me is not something one would use when talking to someone for the first time. I don't know what the hell is wrong with those people. Its comical the way they treated me until I let them know I am a us army vet. Screaming in my face and threatening me while at a gun range? Grabbing your little broomstick like you are going to do something with it? Weird move. Especially when there are multiple weapons around to DEFEND myself with. They just see a short black guy and think im a danger or kid. I am 30 with 2 children. I will not allow that type of disrespect. I will never again set foot on this property and I will make sure everyone i come into contact with knows and never goes again. Sad that I served my country to be treated like this. Thank...
