I attended an IDPA classifier on September 26th at 8:00am. This was the first match I have ever attended. Someone showed up late and therefore was not allowed to shoot in the classifier. This person decided to throw a temper tantrum and smashed their phone by throwing it on the ground repeatedly. They were also pacing back forth and talking to themself while using profanity. They did this while carrying a firearm. This made me feel very unsafe and I felt threatened by the fact that a person displaying very unstable behavior was in possession of a firearm in close proximity to me. This individual was asked to leave due to “Unsportsman-like Conduct” and after going outside the fence he started yelling at a lady sitting in a golf cart who I assume held some authority at the club. I told the people in charge that I felt very unsafe and threatened and that if he is allowed to return to the range that I would leave. Then the director of the practical ranges came to see what happened. When I expressed my concerns, the director downplayed the severity of the situation by stating “Don’t worry, I know him.” Shortly thereafter the unstable individual walked back through the fence onto the range approximately 6 ft from myself, the director, and both range officers in order to apologize for throwing a temper tantrum. At this point I felt even more threatened and unsafe because the individual was already asked to leave. I told the individual that I view him as a threat because of his dangerous and unstable behavior and that I would leave if he continued to stay. I became angry because of the fact that the people in charge did not tell him to leave as soon as he crossed the fence on the range after I had already stated that I felt unsafe based on the individual’s unstable behavior. In my threatened state I became angry and said things I would not normally have said which was rightfully interpreted as “Unsportsman-like Conduct” and I was disqualified and asked to leave. I’m not an angry person but I felt that my life was threatened due to the psychotic behavior of the individual. It did not seem that the range staff viewed this person as being dangerous and unstable but rather that he broke the rules by throwing a temper tantrum. It did not seem like the staff viewed the individual as being unsafe because they did not escort him off the property immediately but rather allowed him to yell at other range staff and also come back on the range to give an apology. I believe the individual in question is dangerous and therefore I will not be returning to this range especially because the range staff made me feel unsafe by not handling the situation properly. As of the writing of this review the range officer disqualified me and asked me to leave however it is yet to be determined whether or not they will allow me to return. As soon as I realized that the staff were not handling the situation properly I should have left immediately in order to prevent things from escalating however at the time I did not realize that the staff would let the person back on the range. I was excited to be a member of this range because I live very close to it however the staff’s poor handling of the situation makes me feel unsafe and I will not...
Read moreJoined recently. Weekdays have very little traffic in mornings. Has ranges out to 500 yards (100/200/300/500 on long range) and a public range area at (my recollection) at 10/25/50/75/100). The public range has a machine for shooting clays, too.
There are a couple of tactical ranges (approval and some orientation or training required before use), and range for .22's, for air rifles... and an archery range.
The manager is a young man serious about what he does and - a very good thing - strict about following rules. I believe his name is Ben. You get a very thorough orientation, the rules are reviewed in detail, plenty of signage explaining the rules, and the manager encourages questions. If in doubt, ask, first - it is a gun range and run as one.
I had been driving out to Rio Salado or Bob Foss (when previously open to public). This one has all one needs. I would encourage anyone interested to reach out and inquire, particularly those in downtown/south Phoenix/Laveen/Tempe/...
Read moreJoined this club a bit ago because I really like the range and atmosphere. Where it loses a star is if you dont live bear by or have week days off its impossible to get face to face with employees, and a lot of events and shoots are held during the week you miss out on. If your very local you will be set. But if like me it's a 42 min drive to your membership range than those are the issues you might have. That being said dont regret joining and I really love the people that work there so far it's purely schedule for me I dont love. But great range and no snobby overwhelmingly dueche staff like you would get at say shooters world or ben avery two of the biggest reasons I dont sweat the travel cause the extra travel to good range and good people...
