The Vineyard was my wife's most favorite public golf course and one of my favorite's, as well. So we were very much looking forward to our Mothers Day round. Unfortunately, the condition of the course did not live up to it's past reputation. The Vineyard was built to be, and for many seasons was, the crown jewel of the Hamilton County golf courses. Today, we found it be in much less than stellar condition. The exception was the rough, and it was TOO good. Thick, lush and nearly unplayable except for those guys who were playing down in Ponte Vedra, Florida this week. We spent too many minutes trying to find shots that found, then nestled down, in the fescue. Mostly, though, it was the "touches" that we had come to enjoy and expect at The Vineyard. The staff was friendly but not in the "go out of their way" style that used to mark the Vineyard staff. It was a hot day, yet there were no water barrels on the course. One staffer was bringing water around on a cart; he caught up to us on the 8th hole and we never saw him on the back side. He told me that he didn't think they had the water jugs out yet. And that kind of described our experience; they didn't seem to be ready to be open for business yet. Please understand, we're not crying; we're no one special and we're certainly not "entitled" to any sort of special treatment. We pay our green fees and wait our turn. Oh, by the way, speaking of greens fees, that's one area that has not declined. A 2:00 PM tee time on Sunday afternoon for 18 holes and a cart cost us two cents under $80.00. The fees at The Vineyard have always been higher than the other County courses and we paid it gladly because of the overall excellent experience, on and off the course. We will now have to reconsider the cost vs....
Read moreTwo friends and I played a round on Friday. It was the first time for my one friend to play the Vineyard. I tried to prepare he for the way I’ve been treated by the staff in the past. I said really nice course but you have to deal with a not so friendly staff. To my surprise the whole attitude of the employees have changed from my previous experience. Every employee I made contact with went above and beyond expectations. The starter was helpful in telling us about course and just very friendly. One gentleman was going through the course with water and keeping an eye on the pace of play. He made contact with us three different times and each time he thanked us for spending our day there. I have hesitated about golfing at the Vineyard for many years because of my past experience but I’m so glad I played there today. I will definitely be back. Course is in great shape and so is the...
Read moreExcellent course, well maintained, water guy was awesome! didn't actually get to play it though. Marshall pushed us so hard we had to completely nix teaching my son to play even though we were 20+ minutes ahead of the standard play speed because the marshall kept coming around telling us to hurry up ( nobody behind us and next team barely ahead) all in all had zero fun and just stressed the entire time. Probably moved even slower than I would have normally because I played SO HORRIBLY trying to keep up with the pace set. Clubhouse supposedly voided our ticket and then re-charged only for my wife and I. That much at least will be considered fair. Will update if that turns out to be honest or if we in fact get double charged. Final note, amazing course if you are semi pro or better but do NOT reserve if still learning or wishing to play at...
