Two to three times a year when we are in Pierre our group of 5-10 people always go to Cattleman’s at least once…But not anymore. On our most recent visit we had the worst experience I have ever had in a restaurant. It started with slow service, which we didn’t have a huge issue with because we had drinks and were having a conversation. When our food finally came the server Jenny dumped almost an entire plate of a jus on someone in our party. We hardly got an apology and an offer to get a rag so they could dry off. I was livid and was about to get angry with the server and my party calmed me down before I blow up. Who passed out plates over a customer, especially at a rectangular table. We start to eat and every single person had cold food. Rather that get a manager I was advised to wait until I’m not angry wait. We finish our meal and when I went to pay our $200+ bill I was asked how our meal was. I replied horrible and that it was the worst experience I had ever had at the Cattleman’s. She looked at me like I was speaking Russian and asked if it would be cash or card. No I’m sorry, or let me get a manager. So I paid and on the drive home I called and asked for the manager. I talked to Dalton and advised him of our visit. He said that he hadn’t heard anything about the spill but that the food was cold because they had a party upstairs. I asked how that matters. Our food was slow but “isn’t it served when it’s done??”. So having a party upstairs shouldn’t make the food cold. Slow maybe but not cold. He advised me that he would look into it and then silence. Never asked for my name or number so he could call me back. Nothing. So he hung up. I still didn’t feel good about the situation. I was told to call Cindi the GM. Today I called her. I explained the situation and on a number of occasions I was told that I was wrong. I said I was at the table and I know how it went down and who did what and that the food was cold because they spilled something and had to remake a plate. Probably that dumbest excuse I have ever heard. I said to take the cold food factor out. I said that when I was in the service industry if there was an incident like that I would have immediately notified a manager and they would have went to the table and apologize on behalf of the establishment and offered to buy a meal or pay for a drink…something. She informed me that it is the waitresses job to make it right not hers. She asked what I want. I said what would she want if a plate of a jus was spilled on her. She said that she spilled on a guest at the party that night and because she was the server she offered to pay for the shirt to be cleaned or to buy her a new one. You put the responsibility to pay to make things right on the server??? WOW!! I said that I don’t have to go all the way out the Cattleman’s, Mad Mary’s is in town and has great food but I choose the Cattleman’s. She said she was fine talking to me and that I should go to the Cattleman’s and hung up on me. Had she offered to buy a meal or offer a discount the next time we were in town that would have been fine. Instead she decides to handle it like a child. I will make sure that everyone I am in Pierre with knows about this and recommend they try Mad...
Read moreWe arrived just at five o'clock on Friday night. Although the place was busy, we were seated right away. Our waitress was Kerri. We waited approximately five minutes for Kerri to come to our table. When she did, we had already decided what to order, so the ordering was quick. Our children were very tired and hungry from a busy day, so we asked her if she could bring out the kids' food ahead of ours so they could eat as quickly as possible. Kerri informed us that the order had to go in at the same time and would be ready at the same time. So that wasn't an option. She left with our order. Twenty minutes later (mind you, the people next to us were served drinks and appetizers before this) she arrived with our drinks. In the mean time, our youngest fell asleep waiting for water (which the kids never got). At this point, she asked us if we were "still doing okay." I may have been confused by the question, since we hadn't been okay up to that point, but whatever. Another ten minutes and she arrived with salads (eat salad in front of a starving five-year-old, right), so the kids demolished the crackers. So five to ten minutes later, she came by with the same stupid question telling us that she saw that our food was "being plated" and would be at the table shortly. Twenty minutes later she finally shows up with our food (and I'm losing interest in stopping my husband from verbally abusing this woman), at which point I realize that I was wrong about her. She did tell the truth about when the food was put on our plates! Judging by the approximate room temperature of the steaks, the cold mushroom and onion, the baked potato that couldn't melt butter, and the grilled cheese that was even too cold for a child (!!!), it was evident that the food had sat on the counter for the entire twenty minutes since she had said she'd seen it. I suspect that the food may have been delicious when it was fresh, but who can tell? So instead of yelling at the waitress (I've been a waitress, and know how hard or can be), we decided to talk to the manager about it. When I mentioned it to her, she said, "Oh, where are you from? Are you here to sell calves?" I said, where we were from and that we were in town to sell calves. She nodded and went back to bussing the table. Before we left my husband took the time to talk to her about it also, to which she replied, "I'm sorry, but you should give us another try...." In short: Mediocre food, bad service, and a manager who (if you're from out of town) doesn't give a damn. And they can't make a...
Read moreI just went to this restaurant with a friend of mine and my friend ordered a prime rib and it was full of fat. She told the waitress that she did not want it at all. She hadn’t even taken a single bite from it. The waitress said ok and retrieved the steak. Shortly, the owner a tall white lady came and brought the same steak and proceeds by saying “I flipped it around, none of this is fat”. I don’t understand what had just happened as my friend politely had told the waitress that she just didn’t want the steak. My friend tells the owner, that she still does not want the steak and the owner was in my opinion pushy and passive aggressive. I guess the owner has not realized that the key to a successful business is to try to fix the situation instead of adding more fuel to the problem and to try to provide an alternate option to the customer in order to have a better outcome. The owner kept forcing the steak on my friend and my friend said that she does not want to pay for a steak that she has not and will not consume. The owner stated “ you have to pay for it”. I’ve never seen an owner of any establishment force a customer to pay for a meal that has not been touched and immediately returned. My friend paid for the steak but the owner was extremely rude and just because of the way she acted and addressed the situation has left me with a bad taste in my mouth. It was uncalled for the owner to come at my friend and demand to pay for a steak that she didn’t want. That owner needs to learn how to treat customers. I will most certainly not return to this establishment. The waitress was nice and professional but I can’t say the same about the so called owner of...
