I had been in the market for a "back-up" acoustic for a couple of years now, as I am starting to wear a second sound-hole into my trusty 2012 Collings D2H that I first bought right before making music my sole full time profession back in March of 2021. My Collings will always be my pride and joy, and figure it might be best to give it a little more rest from time to time and to be on the look out for something to use more on the regular for bars and restaurants or at the very least something to use as a back-up.
Fast forward to earlier this week (June 24th, 2025), I was scrolling Reverb.com and came across this Martin HD-28 in Ambertone posted by Mountain Music Exchange in Pikeville, KY listed at a very good price.
They did however list it with the option to "make an offer", so not being afraid to ask, I sent them the lowest offer it would let me enter along with a message explaining I would be willing to drive over to pick it up, saving them the hassle of shipping and fees, if it meant it would sweetin' the deal...
Not even 15 minutes later, I received a counter offer LESS than the offer I sent them originally, and a message that read...
"We can take this deal, but we can ship if you don't want to make that drive my man"
So, not only did they sell it to me for the lowest price I have ever seen a Martin HD-28 listed (including some old hack-job HD-28s I have came across through-out the years ), but they even properly packaged and shipped it via UPS-2Day to my door for FREE, saving me the 17 hours of driving to pick it up ( live on the Eastern Shore of Maryland)
I can not begin to express how grateful I am to Mountain Music Exchange for their generosity!
I would highly recommend them for purchasing any new or used gear, and I myself plan to do so with any gear I may find myself in need of in the future!
Shoot, I might still make that 17 hour drive here soon, if anything just to thank them in person!
Thanks Mountain Music Exchange! Would highly recommend! Justin...
Read moreI have been to many music stores across the country, from big cities to small, and they all have their own appeal… Some more than others.lol. But I brought my 10-year-old daughter into this store for her first music store experience and I can tell you they provided her with a lifelong memory that I will always be grateful for. She plays piano and sat down at one of the keyboards and messed around for a little bit, then started playing the intro riff to “Smoke on the Water” by Deep Purple. All of a sudden, a gentleman in the corner playing acoustic guitar started playing along and her eyes grew as big as saucers and the smile on her face was as big as I’ve ever seen. She got her first introduction to how music can bring complete strangers of different ages and different backgrounds together, which I believe is the the most powerful aspect of any type of music. She left the store with the biggest smile on her face and stated “music stores are now my favorite place.“ This place has created a lifelong memory for her, and will forever be our...

I was in the market for a used entry level Stratocaster guitar. After weeks of research and playing guitars, I settled in on the Squire 70’s Classic Vibe. I couldn’t find what I was looking for locally, so I made my way to the internet. After a couple of weeks of searching, I found a used Squire 70’s Classic Vibe at a place called Mountain Music Exchange in Kentucky. The guitar was the exact model I wanted, it was listed mint condition and the price was really damn good. I called up the store and not only confirmed the price but was also told the guitar was brand new in the box. To close the deal, they offered free two day shipping. I told them to wrap it up! I couldn’t believe the deal I got!
If you’re looking for a good used or new guitar, I would check out Mountain Music Exchange. They have a great selection of guitars and equipment, awesome prices and excellent customer service. This could very well be the best sales/customer service experience I...
