I hope I donât cause any problems for the company with this review, but I have to tell you about the great experience we had at Northwoods Outlet. We recently purchased two kayaks and the customer service went above and beyond. We had researched everything on line and went to the kayak section to look at the actual kayaks. An employee came up and asked if we needed help and we told her we had questions about kayaks. She said she wasnât an expert but got on the radio and within 60 seconds, two guys showed up to answer our questions. Mike and another guy, whose name I forget (sorry), guided us through the selection process. Mike let the other guy answer most of the questions. No high pressures sales tactics, but they asked how we were planning on using the kayaks and made great recommendations. The two men spent about 20 minutes with us talking about kayaks. Our last question was how we could get the kayaks to our cottage about 30 miles away. We have a small car and I didnât think tying them to the roof was an option. The website said they could be shipped via UPS and Mike said the shipping charge with UPS would run about $150 each. I asked if Northwoods would help us tie the kayaks on. Mike asked how far we were going and I told him where we live. He said heâd get one of the guys to throw them in a truck and drop them off at out cottage. I asked how much they would charge and Mike said âHow about 40 bucks?â I agreed immediately. Mike walked us up to the checkout and made sure the kayaks were rung up correctly (we upgraded from the free life vests included with the kayaks and we got a credit towards the more expensive vests). The cashier was done and I said donât forget to add the delivery charge. The cashier said âWe donât deliver.â Mike said they would deliver these kayaks. The cashier asked how she should itemize the $40 charge and Mike said to put it under miscellaneous. As we were leaving, Mike gave us his card. Mike is the president and CEO of Northwoods Outlets and he had just spent the last 40 minutes helping us buy two kayaks and making sure we could get them home. WAIT - IT GETS BETTER. Thursday morning, at exactly 9:00, a pick up truck pulled into our yard to deliver the kayaks right on time. Mike WAS DRIVING THE TRUCK. Again, Mike is the president and CEO of the company . I have never had such a great shopping experience. I only hope that this review doesnât lead to an avalanche of people coming in expecting to have their kayaks delivered. Iâm pretty sure this was a one time only thing because the big boss is just a great guy. We loved this store before, but now I canât express what a great place...
Read moreStopping at Northwoods has become pretty much a labor day tradition going back many years.
The remodel / reorganization was well needed. We stopped Tuesday afternoon. Much to our surprise. It was nice and slow. Shelves were empty pretty much all over the store.
One thing Northwoods has done in recent years is cut back on the amount they carry in each department. For example. Camping. About 3/4 of an isle and mostly empty shelves. Tubing and lake items. Mostly one or two choices and then empty shelving. We have noticed that snacks and fishing items now predominantly take up the sales floor real estate. None of which interest us to much.
Seeing coolers. Tubes. Camping items we need or want to replace is kinda what we are after. Home decor and those sorts of things were always unique at North Woods. This trip we found some unique home decor items for Halloween. And we did in fact grab some basic / what was offered, camping replacement items. Not exactly. But close enough as we needed it now.
The store is clean !. Better organized. The layout makes sense. And the staff throughout was polite and informative when asked a question.
Maybe in the remodel / reorganization. Updating the bathroom could be given some attention. It's kinda like a closet in the middle of the store. đ.
We will always return on our yearly / biyearly trip. To check out the oddities and items. :)

Read moreNorthwoods is my normal go to store for camping! Went there sat and seen this beautiful flower cart wagon! Talked to an associate to see if they come broke down or put together. She said they are broke down in boxes an asked if we would like one! I was so sad to say not right now because our trunk would already be full with the stuff in our cart! She said no worries we have some in the back whenever we decide to get one! So Sunday we made a special 45 min drive back to Northwoods to get that flower cart for a mothers day gift! After standing there for an hour while not one but two employees look to find the boxs in the back we get told they have no more and we could buy the dented dirty display on the floor! First thing came out of the employees mouth was "and we cannot lower the price" i then asked if a manager could lower the price a bit since it was beaten up. Just figured we would repaint an get the dents out when we got back home. Without even asking for a manager over his radio the employee shut me down an said nope! Come on now. If you have a display. Then have stock. Or take the display down.. If you sell your displays then mark the price down a little. Also get more organized in the back! Within that hour of wait time for them to try n find this cart. My 7 month old cried his eyes out and my 6 year old needed to use the bathroom! Waste of a trip. Wont be back for awhile. Gave three stars because I did like...
