The YMCA at the Piscataway Community Center — Local services in Piscataway Township

Best Y in the area. The facilities are brand new and the staff are very friendly and always ready to help. There are two swimming pools (25 and 20 yard) and a kiddie pool. The ceiling is so high that it felt like you are swimming in an outdoor pool. The exercise room and basketball court are “best-in-class” facilities. The membership fee is reasonable ( $75 per month for a family ) and it worth all the pennies. Highly recommended. Updated (November 2022): Since late summer this year, this Y decided to remove the Pickleball activities without any valid reasons. This shown the lack of communication between the leaders and the community who has interested in playing. Despite a group of more than 100 people who had asked repeatedly to add the Pickleball sports back to the Y, our mayor and the Y directors still deny our requests. As the result, this group of pickleball players had to travel to the Woodbridge Community Center in Woodbridge to play Pickleball there and also had to play another memberships fee there. The Piscataway mayor and the Piscataway Y directors did not accept this popular and growing sports and they should be educated to see the benefit of adding this sport to the Piscataway Y. All other Y in the surrounding areas support this sport and occasionally we did go to other Y (like Somerville Y) just to play pickleball there. For lack of leadership in the Piscataway Y and the Mayor’s office who involved in this decision and shown no interest in promoting this healthy sport for all community, I have to downgrade my rating of this Y to 3.5. If you want your child to learn swimming properly, do NOT send them here! The schedule is unreliable, and the instructors change so often that I have to check who is teaching every single time. The instructors are unprepared for the lessons, and it always feels like they are scrambling to find replacements. With such frequent changes, my child isn’t able to learn anything effectively.

In my opinion, the young age of the instructors makes them seem even more irresponsible. While this may not apply to all instructors, the Wednesday Level 5 instructor for my child’s class was the worst I’ve encountered at this facility. This is the first time I’ve seen a swimming instructor teach without getting into the water! Over seven lessons, my child had three different instructors, and none of them spent any time in the water during the 45-minute lessons.

As a result, we decided to finish this session and move to a different facility.

The manager overseeing these swimming lessons needs to evaluate the instructors and establish a more structured system for the program!

Parents, don’t be fooled by the clean facility and the promise of 45-minute lessons. Don’t waste your time...

Maintenance need more attention Difficult to find out Technician in exercise area On 8/5 around 4.30 PM I was on chain pulling machine R300 ( second one on left side of entrance) and I observed that machine was not working properly and before I take any decision I fall down from machine and hurt on my back I couldn’t find attendant/ Technician to whom I can tell my problem On 8/6 at 12.15 PM I found that the same machine was broken and did not find out of service sign on machine even unable to find technician so I talked with front deck representative . This is good facility but need little more attention
