Tucked away off of old US 1, this unassuming market in Moncure holds a bit of everything, but their specialty is their meats, spices, and sauces. After visiting I would also say the people at Ray's are also their specialty. Everyone we spoke with was pleasant, friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. Travis, behind the meat case, spent a long time with us running us through what they offer, their butcher processes, and his suggestions. Kevin, the owner came out and met us and spoke to us as well. It made us feel very welcomed.
We walked away with a slew of meats and spices including Ray's house ground and made bacon burgers, skin-on thick-cut bacon, bone-in pork chops, andouille sausage, 10lbs of chicken breast, lose mild sausage, and thick cut bologna for frying (Travis recommended 8-10 cut thickness which will prevent the bologna from curling when fried) 😊.
If you find yourself in Moncure and have a hankering for house cut, house ground and mixed meats, a smorgasbord of bbq sauces and spices or simply some good conversation, Ray's is definitely worth your...
Read moreDropped by Ray's on my way through Moncure a few weeks ago. Low and behold behind the counter was Kevin Stone, the current owner of the store. I did not previously know Kevin, but after a brief conversation I felt like I was talking to Tommy Berryman who owned the store in the early 1970s when I lived in Moncure. Kevin seemed like Tommy incarnated. A delightful personality and a willingness to provide for the customers needs. This is not a run of the mill convenience store. It is a country store that is a great place to get whatever you need. As Tommy Berryman always said 40 years ago, " If I don't have it, your don't need it." Kevin appears to have the same attitude. I am also told that Ray's meat is still "tender as a...
Read moreI am a nurse and work at a local hospital. A co-worker told me about this supermarket, so after a long weekend of working 12 hour nights, my husband and I took a 40 minute ride early in the morning to visit the store. We arrive and ask to use the restroom and told they don't have one. So we couldn't really enjoy ourselves and shop, furthermore the meat case was pretty empty, no selection..and sausage looked dry and old. For what was advertised online and what we saw in the store was night and day. Not allowing a local nurse to use the bathroom in your store made me feel very unwelcome. And I will not be coming back...
