Services and caregiving not worth the exorbitant cost.
Pros: food was tasty and plentiful. The apartment was very nice. They have a van that you can request for transportation to appointments and errands. Many outings for the residents every month.
Cons: poor communication from the supervisors to residents. Poor communication between supervisors and their staff. Laurus caregivers supervisor difficult to work with. Requested my mom to be showered on the weekend. She said they couldn't because they didn't have enough people. One time the person supposed to do the shower never showed up. One time a Laurus person came in to the apt at 730 am for a wakeup service, but we never scheduled one. They told us when THEY could do their services (caregiving, showering, apt cleaning, etc.), not when WE wanted them to. Person cleaning our apt didn't do a good job. Left multiple surfaces unclean. Also was supposed to clean for 45 minutes minimum and she was always here only 30-35 minutes. Spoke with her supervisor to request another cleaner, she said no. Showed her supervisor the areas that were missed and she agreed it wasn't good (the first time). The next time I showed her the issues, she said the cleaner was doing her job correctly. Multiple issues with the apartment that were there before we moved in were still not fixed 3 months after we moved in. Left maintenance person multiple messages and he never responded. We had an appointment one day and he never showed up, no call no contact to say he wasn't coming. Multiple little frustrations that added up to a big disappointment that we're stuck here for a year. Response to Storypoint's response (5/16/25): Either you are trying to contact the wrong resident or you are lying about trying to contact me. There has been no phone/in-person or email contact from Storypoint management/supervisors since I wrote the review. I have told them multiple times in the past to call me if they wanted to talk with me, NOT to just knock on our door and barge in after knocking. They would come in to the apartment immediately after knocking when we first moved in (without waiting for us to open the door). This would frighten my mother when she was in the apartment alone. I requested that they stop that and contact me directly and it has been stopped.
I live with my mother in the apartment, but am in and out doing various errands so I am not always there. I do go down to the main area at least 2x/day but no one has told me they wanted to talk to me. I haven't said anything to the director because I didn't want to get anyone in trouble. I've been trying to resolve the issues by speaking directly with the supervisors or the staff. However, I will make an appointment to speak with the director. I emailed the director per the request, to set up a meeting. She wrote "This is your decision. I am happy to meet with you, but please don’t feel obligated to do so.". I guess she doesn't feel there's any...
Read moreThe year leading up to my 90+ y.o. parents' move to StoryPoint was difficult, to say the least. After over 50 years of living in the same house, multiple health issues and worsening dementia made the transition necessary. The situation was less than ideal, but the people at StoryPoint helped us out at every step of the way. They were incredibly patient with my parents as well as me. Everyone there has been caring and communicative as we made the adjustment.
Once my father had some important surgery, the care staff and physical therapy teams worked tirelessly to get him up to speed. Now he has eliminated a lot of the care options he had in place, and can move about the facility, making friends.
Mom moved into the memory care section of StoryPoint, where she is loved and taken care of. I visit a couple times a week, and she is always happy and content. Everyone tells me they love my mom, and I wish they could have known her before dementia took her away.
Things I especially like about StoryPoint: The staff. Everyone knows my parents and knows me. I am always embarrassed that they all know my name better than I know theirs. The wellness team has really made a difference in my parents physical mental health. When Dad moved here, he told me he didn't care about meeting people. Now we walk down the halls and he's stopping to say hi to every member of the team, telling me about their families! Activities. There are always lots of activities, on and off site, for my parents to enjoy. I do wish Dad would take advantage of more, but he is a big fan of the Veteran's Group. The food. The quality of the menu never ceases to amaze me. The monthly/holiday brunch is always a big treat. A perfect excuse to join my parents for a meal. The facilities and location. It's quiet and surrounded by trees and a pond. Lots of wildlife to be seen. The public areas and courtyards are a nice, comfortable space to spend time. My dad has made ample use of the library. The apartment itself has plenty of space for my dad, with a great view of the pond. The exercise facility is great, and Dad uses it to keep up his strength. The memory care facility is quiet and pleasant. Lots of areas for the residents to hang out and partake in activities. The apartments there are also comfortable. The view of the flowering trees in the spring is an added bonus. The residents. I've gotten to know several other residents over the past year. So happy and friendly, and also helped my parents make the adjustment of moving.
Moving my parents from Chicago to MI took more out of us than I would have imagined. But I'm thankful they are close by now and in a place where I know they are safe and...
Read moreMy parents had been residents at StoryPoint in Saline for about a year. At first everything was great. The community, food and staff are wonderful. After a while the truth starts to show.
My mother fell and broke her hip this summer. Once discharged from the rehab facility, we purchased StoryPoint's hospital discharge package for the additional assistance she needed. Those services cost almost $2,000/month, which should have given her the additional care she required. These services were supposed to include 4 bathroom assists, clothing changes and transportation assistance for dinner. Half the time no one came to her room when they were supposed to which is very confusing for anyone, especially an injured geriatric individual with dementia. We also encountered instances where the aides were not trained properly to handle her needs. This was apparent in their nervous demeanor and how unsure of themselves they were. Due to their inexperience, my mother was dropped on two separate occasions during bathroom assists.
The last straw was when an aide gave my mother my father’s medication which caused her to spend two days in the hospital. The family had not signed up for that kind of assistance and the aide had no business touching their medications. CNA's are not trained for medication distribution. Disciplinary actions were supposedly taken, but a week later the same undertrained aide was still there assisting my parents. After the accident with their medications, we quickly moved our parents to a different facility.
My family’s overall opinion is that StoryPoint is understaffed and under trained. We were told repeatedly from various aides how they've spoken to management about these issues, but management has done nothing to correct the problem. There is a definite disconnect between management and the workers.
If your loved one can take care of themselves, then this is your place to be. If they need additional help, look into other facilities that are equipped to handle their needs as StoryPoint in...
