Our group of 8 visited 1848 Distillery as a result of winning a silent auction that Sam had donated to a fundraiser for Hands for Hope. The 1848 Distillery is a small batch distillery and our hosts Sam & Gordon were just absolutely wonderful. The whiskey tasting was just part of the silent auction, and was paired with several courses of appetizers (chicken, shrimp skewers, stuffed mushrooms & sausage) provided by a local retired chef. We learned a lot about the distilling process and got to sample several of their products. As yet, they do not have a retail outlet and their sales are to distributers & wineries.... yes, I said wineries. 1848 distills a clear liquor that is about 120-125 proof that has no taste.
