We came here today for the first time and we had a horrible experience. My daughter got bitten by a horse. And when I brought it to the attention of staff members I was told why was she standing so close to The horse pen (she wasn't even touching the fence the horse put its head out of the fence)which by the way had no signage or anything because that is something I look for. I also was told was there signs? and I said no there was not. I also was made to feel like I was a bad mother and not watching my child when I was literally standing right next to her when this happened. Immediately following me telling the staff member at the counter I found who I'm assuming to be the owner I'm not exactly certain outside of the horse pens putting up signs and when I approached him he pretty much told me the same thing and said that they have signs up but somebody had taken them down. And that what I let my child stand close to a fence where a dog is? Which my response was if the dog is aggressive there should be a sign obviously if my child is close to a fence for a dog is they're not going to be sticking their hand through the fence and she didn't stick her hand through the fence where the horses were. The entire situation left a nasty taste in my mouth and the fact that my 5-year-old was basically put to blame for the fact that she got bit when she was just standing...
Read moreOver the weekend, we decided to take a fun road trip up north to visit Apple Hill. It had been a while since we did this, and we were excited! We had a list of our favorite places we usually stop by, but this time, we decided to try something new - Abel's Apple Acres.
We arrived at around 3:30 PM, and even though most of the weekend traffic was leaving Apple Hill, many folks were still enjoying Abel's Apple Acres. We strolled around, explored the little kiosks and shops, and eventually found ourselves in the food court.
The food turned out to be pretty good. We shared a yummy BBQ plate, a bowl of beans, some regular fries, and a couple of delicious corn cobs. Surprisingly, no one in our group had any complaints about the taste or quality of the food - which is quite unusual for us! Plus, the prices were reasonable.
The weather was fantastic, and we were eager to hit up our other favorite spots before they closed for the day, so we hopped back in the car. But one thing's for sure: we'll definitely be coming back to Abel's Apple Acres...
Read moreI've always considered the apple pies sold at Abel's Acres to be the best. I hadn't been there for a few years, but bought a cooked buttermilk apple crumb pie last week. I paid about $18.
I had a slice of the apple pie later when I got back home, and was very disappointed. The apples were not done.
I called the bakery at Abel's not looking for a refund, but thought they should be advised that their apple pies (or some of them) were undercooked. The lady the bakery, did not apologize or say she would look into my complaint. Instead she only defended their pies. Apparently, there will be no quality control at Abel's Acres and don't be surprised if your apple pie is undercooked.
Then in thinking further about the pie because I could just bake it more, I realized the apples themselves were tastless anyway.
So I contacted my neighbor to pick some of her delicious apples from her tree and will bake my own apple pie.
Abel's Acres apple pie for me was a complete...
