RPM is an excellent resource that most in the Council Bluffs/Omaha metro don't realize is available to them. On the track side, there are events almost every weekend and there are many events that do not require race gear. On those events, they just require a basic tech inspection to ensure your car isn't a danger to you or the other people on the track. On the drag side of the facility, they have events that cover everything from junior rails (children 5 years old and up) to Super Pro. The staff are excellent and are willing to work with drivers and crew to allow everyone to have a useful/fun/safe event.
The only downside to the site is that it looks pretty run down when you first pull in. The parking lot/paddock area looks like it was paved at one point but is mostly broken up and gravel now. There is a decorative fence between the grand stands and the hot pit land that isn't in great shape. None of these problems carry over to the racing areas though. The track is in great shape, the run off areas are smooth and mowed, the corner stations are safe and clean (and also the best place to watch a race).
The site is under new management and it's pretty clear they are concentrating efforts on the racing surfaces which is a good thing. There have been improvements on the site this year which shows they are aware of the short comings and are working to make them better. You can't ask for more. I will be back and will...
Read moreAwesome Friday Night driving fun! This was my first night trying street racing at the complex. You arrive around 5, pay the event driver admission fee ($25 for street race, $20 for timed Drag race nights) they check out your car in a tech review. Then around 6 they have a drivers meeting to explain the basics of where you go when, and ensure that those who want to compete for prize money are in appropriate classes. I just ran in the 'for fun' test and tune class. It was a real blast competing against all kinds of vehicles including electric cars, pickups, superbikes and highly customized cars with slicks and parachutes. Their tracks are only 1/8 mile long so timing the start was key. Also, street races are untimed, since the start is run with a hand held flashlight. I will note that if you are a spectator, you probably want to come on a drag race night instead of a street race night. On a street race night the grandstand supervision area is just past the finish line. But for a drag race you sit at the start. Overall, the test and tune street racing event was a five star experience for a driver looking for an...
Read morethis is a 8th mile drag strip with a adjacent road race course that was flooded out in the spring of this year when the Missouri over flowed its banks. it is remarkable that a dedicated group of volunteers continuously has assisted the owner in cleaning up once the water receded off the track.it is now to the stage that races can be held on the drag strip as well as the road race course and there were perhaps 150 cars there this Friday night along with a large group of spectators. The current management seems to be doing all the right things given the limited source of funds available right now. the volunteers that have put in countless hours are certainly to be commended and it is a track that spectators should take advantage of given the small fee...
