This is a wonderful place to visit for home cooked meals with a hometown feel. There are daily meat specials Monday - Saturday. For example, today is Wednesday, so it was ribs. I've had the ribs before and they are finger-licking good, but I came for the thick pork chops that I was hoping they would have today and they did. They also had brisket, pork chops (pictured below), plus hamburger "The Newt Burger"/cheeseburger, which is a fresh patty hamburger not frozen. Seems like they probably had another meat today, but I can't remember. They also have homemade sides, which I got the macaroni & cheese and hashbrown casserole. For dessert, they had homemade brownies, large cookies, coonhunter cake and homemade soft serve ice cream. The flavors were banana and mountain dew. I got the banana. They probably had more desserts, but I didn't get there until after 1pm. You can eat in or carry out. They also have a small pavilion with a couple of picnic tables where you can eat outside, if you'd like. There is parking there or across the street. Definitely family/kid friendly. The staff are super friendly. My meal, not including the ice cream, was $15.99. I'm pretty sure that each day's plate special that includes the meat and your choice of two sides is $15.99. As you can see in the photos below, you're not going to go...
Read moreOne of the great treasures of central Kentucky! Going here is like stepping back in time to the country stores I visited with my Dad when I was a boy. The wood floors, the tin ceiling and the aisles crammed with everything you can imagine could be lifted out of another era long ago. But the reason to go there is the food. They have a classic home-style menu with all the great American comfort foods like meatloaf and roast beef, with green beans and mashed potatoes among a wide choice of sides. They’ll fry fish on Friday, and whip out a cheeseburger for you while you stand and watch. Or you can get a cold-cut sandwich made with meats and cheese you only see in a place like this. And to finish up they have pies, cobblers, cakes and ice cream, all made in-house and amazing. But the best food in the place is their brisket, which is tender and smoked perfectly, with just the right crust on it. Your doctor won’t approve, but your taste buds will rejoice when you add a little salt to a bite of the fat and lean together, and slowly chew and let it all melt together in your mouth. Bliss. The food is wonderful, the people are super nice and the atmosphere is of a kind that’s sadly vanishing from this world of fast-food and plastic. Don’t miss it! Go as...
Read moreThis unassuming little restaurant has outstanding smoked brisket. Some of the best I have had. I would rate their brisket in the top tier of what I have eaten. The sides are also very good. I especially liked their pinto beans with just a little kick and lots of flavor. It’s about 40 minutes east of Louisville and well worth the drive.
The people there are really friendly and while there are lines waiting to order they do a good job in keeping it moving. If you happen to be sitting outside in the pavilion you can’t help but notice that wonderful odor of smoked brisket wafting past your nose. I met the owner, Buckshot and he is very friendly and accommodating and takes a lot of pride in his restaurant.
If you want a good choice for a tasty lunch head out to B&N. They have several good selections but not too many as to be overwhelming. They even have several flavors of Ale8 on tap as well as Ale8 Paw...
