TPC Sawgrass — Local services in Ponte Vedra Beach

I have been playing resort and high-end private golf courses for 40 years. The others in our foursome are just as experienced. We have played all over North America, the Caribbean and Europe and while golf was great there this past weekend, there are several issues both good and bad that i wanted to share.

Pros: 1- Golf course was in great shape. 2 - Food was very good. 3 - Service was above average at course, proshop and caddies. 4 - One caddy was very good, one very average.

Cons: 1 - Unless you want to walk with caddies and order 72 hours before tee time, do not plan on taking a cart. The policy is cart paths only and was not clearly relayed to us at booking time. As we heard from the forecaddies that this policy is year round. This is something we should have investigated earlier but we failed. should have had a caddy for each of us. 2 - The GPS restrictions on the carts are set so tight that we constantly fought the "dreaded return to cart path", even though we were CLEARLY in the middle of the path. This kept happening in excess of 20 times on one cart and very frequently on the other carts over 2 days of play. 3 - Marriott hotel is below average system wide and sub-standard for this type of resort. Service was better than average, but the hotel is old and in need of a remodel. examples include, non-working toilet, old bath design, non working elevators, only one bank of elevators in main hotel and had significant wear and use. 4 - We arrived at hotel at 10:30PM on a Friday(airline issues), and could not find any food at the hotel and all the local restaurants were also not serving food as well. Even the the national pizza chains were not delivering even though it was less than a half a mile away and did not close till midnight. At least they had 2 vending machines! 5 - Bar last call was at 11:30 PM. On a Friday night and the place was packed?

On our way home we all had the same assessment; while we enjoyed the golf, we decided that unless there were changes we would not return. We were doing an evaluation to bring a group of 16 or so in the future, but this is unlikely to occur.

Absolutely breathtaking location with good food and well maintained course and clubhouse, but I had an awful experience with the security guard. I initially came as a travel recommendation from a friend, seeing as I was visiting Jacksonville for the weekend with my boyfriend. I had never been to a country club before, so I was taking everything in as I was driving in, reading all the signs and I accidentally drove past the guard house. It's a bit confusing because I saw the gate that rises to let cars through, but it's a couple of yards in front of the guard house so I was waiting right behind the gate. I looked into my rear view mirror and I saw an angry security guard throwing his hands up in the air. I realized my mistake and felt extremely embarrassed and reversed back to apologize to the security guard. I begin apologizing and he cuts me off, yelling at me about paying better attention to my surroundings and how this guard house wasn't there for no reason. He asked what business I had here, which made me feel extremely unwelcome as a guest who just wanted to grab dinner and explore the clubhouse. I do believe he was only talking to me in that manner because I'm a college girl, who doesn't seem fit to recieve the same respect as if I was an older male. I keep apologizing while he's yelling at me and to end the encounter, he scoffs at me, throws his hands in the air, and says, "Whatever, just go." I've never been talked to like that in my life. Played the Stadium Course on 4/28/2019 at a premium price considering the time of year. Myself and 3 good friends finally decided to splurge and fulfill a bucket list item by playing TPC Sawgrass Stadium Course, “ Home of the Players”. We were very disappointed when we was told we had to start on hole 10. It’s not how any of us had envisioned our round. We wanted the true experience of having 3 of the toughest holes in golf to be our closing holes on that day. So we experienced workers the entire round and at times waiting for them to clear so we could resume play. The real kicker was the fact that once we got to those signature holes, all we heard was boards slamming, power tools going and just a full blown construction site with removal of the buildings that are set up for the tournament. So with all that being said, I was sent a link for a survey about my experience in which I completed and shared my experience along with rating every aspect of the facility. The staff was phenomenal in the clubhouse and our forecaddie was exceptional. I would think really hard before you book a tee time at a prestigious course that doesn’t seem to care about their customers. The course should have really been shut down for a little while or discounted rates and full disclosure of the work taking place on the grounds of the facility. Greens were also sub par condition.
