Juniata County Fairgrounds — Local services in Port Royal

Although attending the fair provides a fun family outing, this fair is providing elephant rides through Commerford and Sons. The animals provided by this traveling zoo are in poor health and have been mistreated. Commerford has numerous USDA violations. Unfortunately, this fair supports the exploitation of animals by sponsoring Commerford. Many people don't know about the cruelty involved in animals transported to fairs for human entertainment. I am particularly concerned about an elephant being brought to the fair for people to ride. It is inhumane. This animal is 46 years old, and deserves sanctuary. I grew up in PA and attended many fairs, including this one. There is so much else that the fair has to offer. I will never attend this one again. Juniata County Fair is NOT a place to take your children, unless you want them to witness animal abuse firsthand. The fair allows a notorious "traveling petting zoo" to set up every year, and they do not care that this traveling zoo has been cited for numerous cases of animal abuse.

Commerford & Sons Traveling Petting Zoo has "owned' the elephant Beulah for 19 years now, and they treat her in a cruel and inhumane way. She is worked into exhaustion and denied water. They regularly prod her with a vicious, pain-inflicting bull hook when she tries to stop and rest or get a drink. The teenagers and kids who ride Beulah regularly kick her and pull at her, and she has also stumbled and fallen on people in the past. She is poorly cared for, and in serious need of medical attention, which Commerford denies her.

It is to me as I am a disabled person who walks with a cane. I use a wheelchair to watch the races. But I look at a railing all night which sucks. But you built a new bathroom yes nice, but sill if you park your car by turn one that is a very long walk. But your not thinking of the handicapped. Just the regular person.
