Annie Bloom's Books — Local services in Portland

I LOVE great bookstores and I want them to always be around. Annie Bloom's is one of these stores. To show this, I decided to offer the gift of books to some family members. I asked for their wish list and went to Annie Bloom's website because (since we're quarantined) I couldn't go to the store in person. I placed the order and expected a long delay. I got a quick reply and was informed that one of the books is on backorder and another would take a day or two and was I okay with that. Am I okay with excellent customer service? You bet! So I placed the order without the backordered book and mentioned in the notes that it was a gift. Today I got a text of a couple of photos of some very happy kiddos with their beautifully giftwrapped books and big wide smiles on their faces. Maybe I missed something, but I didn't expect all the fun giftwrap (each was wrapped in a different paper) just becuase I mentioned it was a gift. The recipients and I are all very happy campers and I will absolutely keep shopping at Annie...

This is the best bookstore! It’s such a relaxing and welcoming place—like stepping into a cozy hobbit hole filled with literary treasures. I absolutely love how helpful the staff is—they’re always happy to assist and will order any book that’s not in stock, which is a huge plus for those who need their next epic read ASAP! The kids' section is awesome and has new adventures all the time. Not once has anyone in my family said they couldn't find anything!

They do a fantastic job of keeping gifts under wraps, even if they leave you a voicemail, which is perfect for keeping surprises a secret. Another highlight is their seasonal wrapping paper, which adds a special touch to any gift. It’s like getting a bonus chapter in your reading adventure!

Wow, I'm so amazed that there is a bookstore of this quality that is perfect for finding a huge selection of children's books, and is open until 9:00 p.m. on many nights. This is a rare book shop indeed! The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. They offer complimentary gift wrapping, which was no small thing for me in that I purchased 8 books (for a 1-year old, mind you) and asked to have each one gift wrapped. My "tip" for this service was to purchase another 25 dollars worth of goods for myself. Without a question, the highlight of my visit was the small black cat that wanders into the store on its own--it is the store cat, very disarming, friendly, cute, wish I could take him home.
