My child was a camp counsellor and I very much agree with the sentiments of the other reviewer. My children all adults have attended camps when teens and been counselors at other camps. My child was dumped at the bus stop in the village . He was offered bus fare , he had not drawn any salary and forfeited any transportation pay. The temperature was almost 100 degrees that day. We were very fortunate that we had friends in NYC. I was unable to contact my child as it was so rural and cell service was so poor. I called the camp and the director would not give me any information other than to say he was left at a bus stop. They take great pains to get an employee to camp but my child was dumped in what is called a village. The village consists of a McDonalds, a gas station, an All State building and not much else. Thankfully the McDonalds was open otherwise I am unsure if he would have been able to handle the heat. My child had to pack so quickly, he was not able to get his medication, had to leave his bedding and was really rushed and intimidated. My child had an issue with what he felt was the director pushing his religious overtones on counselors. There are no safe guards put into place for the employee as expressed in other review. You are in a very rural part of Pennsylvania. My child was not permitted to call us to figure out a way home. Had any of this been disclosed in the Skype Interview or employment details the job never would have been taken. The camp administration showed zero concern for my child's safety upon leaving. The level of arrogance was appalling. There should be a complete revision of the employment contract as there is little safeguards for the employee. The experience was traumatizing for my child, for our family, and it is shameful to think and know others have been...
Read moreMy name is Scott Small, I’m 19 years old and from Scotland — or as the campers knew me, “Scott from Scotland!” I spent my first summer at Camp Weequahic in 2025 as an in-bunk counselor and lifeguard/swimming instructor. Traveling across the world alone to a new place was daunting but from the moment I arrived, I felt welcomed like family — even being met at 2 a.m. by a camp director who wouldn’t let me carry my own luggage. The entire staff became a tight-knit community that genuinely cared for one another. Whether it was during orientation or the day-to-day hustle, everyone made an effort to connect, and it created an incredibly supportive and positive environment. Before camp, I had been struggling personally with confidence and health after leaving semi-professional football. I was anxious about how I’d be perceived, especially as a lifeguard, but the kindness and encouragement I received helped me grow in ways I never imagined. I gained confidence, found purpose, and even lost 15 kg (33 lbs) through healthy choices and support from my new camp family. Camp Weequahic also provided thorough training, including lifeguard certification and scenario-based prep that left me feeling fully prepared. The hiring process was smooth and straightforward, with great support along the way. Camp truly changed my life, and I can’t wait to return for...
Read moreI just finished spending 9 weeks as a counsellor at Camp Weequahic and all I can say is that it was by far the most rewarding 9 weeks I have ever had. From the moment I stepped off the bus on the first day of orientation i was greeted with a handshake and a warm welcome by both the directors, Cole and Kate Kelly. They made me feel right at home from the moment I arrived and I am very fortunate to have had them as my directors over the past 9 weeks. The camp prides itself on doing the best for their campers and I can honestly say that not once did they make a decision that wouldn't be in the campers best interest. From a staff standpoint, Cole and Kate are the best employees I have ever had. They not only provided me with a job that I loved and will be returning to next summer, but they helped me become a more positive and optimistic person. They constantly said "you choose your own attitude every day" and as soon as I began to follow that mantra, i have been a happier person. Camp Weequahic isn't just a place you go to to fill in your 9 week break, it is a place where you can grow as a person, make a second family and have the greatest time of your life. Im definitely returning to...
