Read moreI was traveling down Rt 23 and Google told me this wasn't to far off the highway. I called to see if they could fit in a single walking.
Walking isn't allowed on a Saturday until after 3 pm, which wasn't a problem since I wouldn't get there till 3:24.
$15 was the cost to walk is what I heard over the phone. So I expected this beat up trailer for a club house etc. I had to make sure he didn't say $50 when I walked in because the facilities presented a modern and country club feel.
After paying the $15 walking rate, instead of the $35 it costs to ride, I was off.
The course is at the top of the mountain. It's a hilly walk.
Layout is beautiful. Fairways had nice grass all around. No sand in the sand traps, the course superintendent says that should change by the end of the season. They are in the process of lining them in the same way courses on the pga tour do it.
The greens had consistent grass. It was probably the right speed for a mountain course at medium. Most mountain courses are faster though.
I definitely would go back if I happen to be passing by when...
Read moreI have only played two times here, but so far I love this course. It is so much better than the other area courses in Eastern Ky. and Southwest Va. It can be crowded, but everyone is generally nice and patient (those who aren't patient should relax and enjoy their time on the course). It can be a challenging course with several tough but enjoyable holes.
The fairway grass is unbelievably lush and the greens are nicely kept and encourage you to really go after those long putts.
The gentleman who started us was particularly pleasant (we discussed the old Dan Hall course in Coeburn Va.) and the other gentleman who was riding through keeping everyone moving gave me the impression he genuinely wanted us to enjoy our gameand was very nice in correcting us on the cart rules (they are a little different than most places).
I' looking forward to playing again soon and hope to continue to have such positive experiences...
