We have been adult patrons of Rosedale Attractions for at least 30 years, attended all 3 SoMD County Fairs for 50+ years and have never had an unpleasant incident (well, unless rain counts- lol). That changed today. Sadly, the female operating the Giant Slide for the final hour of the fair was the most impolite, disrespectful customer service employee I've ever encountered. Several other parents and grandparents were also standing at the bottom of the slide watching their youngsters enjoy the free feeling of the air rushing past their faces. Many of these spectators made remarks about how unpleasant the operator was. She kept her arms crossed and a scowl on her face while admitting CHILDREN to the slide area. Every verbal interaction was harsh, curt, abrupt, and punctuated with a rude attitude and incredibly negative body language. Two of our grandchildren, ages 5 and 7, were excited using their remaining tickets for 3 more turns on the slide. I was reluctant because of the attendants attitude, but acquiesced because a grandma always lets the kids win. On their 2nd trip down the slide, our 7 year-old, who is autistic jumped up and down twice. This is a very commonway for autistic individuals to express happiness. He failed to immediately hand his burlap sack to the Slide Queen because of those few gleeful seconds. In her rude, angry manner, the operator demanded the "bag." As a foster parent with substantial experience handling angry, aggressive teens, I began relatively calmly with, "Hey, your hard weekend is just about over and they're kids; why don't you try being just a bit more pleasant?" She responded by walking 15 feet closer to me, getting within inches of my face, assuming fight posture (including hand gestures & arm extension), saying repeatedly that she was just asking for the bag, and that if I didn't like:it, I could report her to management." Unfortunately, I made the mistake of trying to explain that the issue was the WAY asked for the sack, and her aggressive manner escalated even more. We walked away with two children who wanted to know why "the fair has mean people." I certainly would not want this person representing my company and I can not recommend any events featuring Rosedale as long as the current hiring/training process doesn't identify and filter type of personality before allowing them to work around children. Hopefully, the management at Rosedale will see the wisdom of terminating this operator's employment, as well as any others whose temperaments are obviously ill-suited for positions requiring public interaction. If I had not walked away, the final 20 minutes of the 2023 Calvert County Fair could have been very different for everyone in the midway.
UPDATE: Rosedale Management did not respond to either my voice or e-mail messages. They did reach out once this review was posted on several platforms. The spokesperson who reached out said the ride operator admitted that she had aggressively "stepped up" to me. I was also told that she had been terminated after refusing to apologize to me since she felt her actions were justified because I was "out of [my] lane." Although my little guy's autism was not a direct factor in the incident, I have sent them a copy of "The Reason I Jump" for them to make available to all employees as an addition to their sensitivity training program. I added a second star to this review to acknowledge...
Read moreI didn't go to the fair, but on Saturdays, they have a great yard sale (flea market style)! We came a few times to sell some of our stuff when we had to downsize before a move. Everyone there was very friendly & and helpful, which made it easy for us to find a spot & set up! Set up is as early as 0600, then around 1000 a representative comes around to collect the $10 fee. It is also a great opportunity to check out some...
