Oh for God's sake Come on crook county. We are in the grasps of being an amazing destination and our city planning has no forsight into the possibilities that this town holds! Meth issues, good ol boy mentality, child abuse, wife beatings, meth epedmic and and a city administrations that fears change and progress. Great server farms went in and not a single sponsor (even a sign) for the round up?? Big business is welcome on top of the hill without TRULY contributing to our education, city planning, long term vision, or sustained employment for the middle class. The employees that do work in those server farms don't even LIVE here...not even a tax base for housing? Les Schwab's corporate even bailed asap when LES died. What does this say for this community? Not a lot. Children in your schools have never experienced the coast except for 6th grade trip funded by we the parents??!? Never leaving the hole?? Your fair ground is in total disrepair, parks are mowed but not maintained, social services is on overload and a new crisis social family abuse councilor has been brought into the middle School full time. WHAT DOES THIS SCREAM?? Collage is not pushed or while you have military recruiter on staff to "help" the children in their futures? Come on! You have brought in 2 of the most powerful companies in the world exploiting our resources (including our crooked River!!) and our community is one of the most degraded and repressed in Oregon. We are less than 30 miles from the hub of bend and the elite refuse to move here because of the reputation of this town. Get your act together -its long over due for new ideas and a plan for the future! stop kissing ass hoping for a hand out from corporations who do not have to best interest of anyone other than themselves. How can you NOT see this?? Your bathrooms at there fair grounds suck, if you sit on the lower seats in the indoor arena there is no drainage leaving your feet sopping wet and cold and it is absolutely freezing in fall and winter. Outdoor arena for 4h kids is flooded and not graded correctly half the year and 100% is unusable. The stalls are chewed and in disrepair and last year you county Fair was literally non existent. The beautiful stream going through town used to be awesome for fly fishing little brookie now it is inaccessible by massive tree falls brush overgrowth garbage build up, the homeless camps, and genuine fear of being mugged. Kiddos should be safe and able to enjoy these amazing opportunities that have been grossly allowed to designate before our eyes. To answer your question of quality of fair grounds. It is just another example of the the good ol boys with no vision or regard for the near future of our town. I'm selling my Historical cattle ranch to allow my children a better life 30 miles away...all with a sigh of relief. How...
Read moreFair is free entry and there are lots of free attractions which are nice. Three free jump houses are all separated by age, so the littles don't get trampled is a nice touch. There's a sheltered picnic area nearby where parents sit and eat fair food and watch their kids jump. I witnessed a large extended family all standing around, having shunned the nearby bathrooms, as a preschooler was getting a diaper change on the table surface...probably not the best place to settle down for a snack or a meal. There's a Christmas hall w Santa; lots of animals to see; beautiful, fierce looking but extremely gentle Texas long horn cattle; free pony rides; kiddie rides that cost $16 apiece w no package deals available; various food trucks w deep fried and sweet treats; and lots of noisy flashy trinkets to buy. Monster truck rides were available across the street from the entrance at $10 per person, which seemed reasonable. A game tent had jumbo versions of classic games and puzzles, which were also free. Law enforcement was raffling off a ruger and a semi-automatic to raise funds. The model railroad was so thoughtfully done to scale from the Columbia River all the way to Bend with all of the towns in between represented. Young club members were stationed throughout to ensure the smooth running of the trains. It's an active club, and all were happy to knowledgably answer questions about the trains. Crook County Library had a book mobile filled w free books for all ages on site. Overall, it was a nice walk through and is fun...
Read moreWe loved and enjoyed the Grimes Christmas house display. Although our 4 yr old was scared and of Santa, he loved everything else. He found the lights enjoyable and kept calling out what he was seeing. When it came to the Christmas house and scenes, he could not get enough. We went through twice and then looked at our favorites. He spent over 40 mins looking at the scenes. He then enjoyed the live Nativity. They gave him peanuts to feed the donkey. He enjoyed seeing baby Jesus and all of the characters.
We will be going back next year. We can't way to see...
