The lineup is usually great. This year, the headliner was supposed to be Ozzy, but he had to back out due to health. Still, the festival was great due to several other great bands. Not sure Korn was a suitable replacement for Ozzy, though. A couple changes this year did not sit well with diehard Rocklahoma fans like me. They used to have a stage outside the main venue. This Access stage would have live bands Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday nights, as well as after the main venue closed. Well, in an obviously greedy move, they got rid of this stage. It seems the producers of Rocklahoma didn't like that people could bring their own drinks to this stage. So, they added a stage inside the main venue called the Roadhouse, which took on many of the shows the Access stage used to host. Unfortunately for guests, you can't bring your own drinks anymore and have to pay exorbitant prices. Speaking of the Roadhouse, this stage was poorly designed for the caliber of some of the bands playing there. For example, when Lita Ford was playing there (why she wasn't on the main stage none of us know), few could always see her due to the overcrowded tent. They also eliminated one of the two side stages, and moved the other near the Roadhouse. This upset many fans due to the lengthy walk from the main stage to this other stage. Finally, the producers eliminated the free booze that was always part of the VIP package. I hope Rocklahoma lives on, but these latest changes do not sit...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI have been going to Rocklahoma for the past 4 years. The first two as 'weekend general admission' and the last two as 'weekend VIP'. What I like about Rocklahoma - a ton of bands! I usually recognize about 20-25% going in, and treat the other 75-80% as an opportunity to be introduced to potentially awesome music. I can walk away each year with at least one or more bands Ive noted to follow up on after the concert.
Of the past 3 years, I could guarantee 1 (or more!) of the 3 days to be weather impacted. 2018 is the first year year without weather delays/cancellations. While previous weather impacts sucked, Rocklahoma would step forward the next year and offer discounts to people who had been impacted.
Comparing GA to VIP: VIP is about 3x as expensive as GA. While I never did take advantage of GA camping, I have utilized VIP camping. GA charged me for parking, GA only has grass seating (bring a lawn chair!), GA has access to expensive vendors/drinks. VIP - I've not yet had to pay for parking, I get access to front row assigned stadium seating, though I can certainly get up and walk around (and visit friends in GA), I get access to the VIP tent (catered food, free drinks -open for both lunch and dinner to VIP campers). I have heard horror stories from friends camping the GA; the VIP camping is quite relaxed and quiet even! VIP Camp showers seem to be less crowding/waiting in line. Overall I will continue to go to Rocklahoma, and I will continue...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreSecurity is a joke, my friends said one day they allowed one thing such as fans and umbrellas and then the next day were told they couldnāt bring them in despite them watching other people entering with the exact same items, they were allowed in after pointing that out but I was also told my lawn chair was not allowed despite there being no specifications in the rules on lawn chair types just that the chairs are subject to inspection which was not performed I was only told it wasnāt allowed and then upon entrance I saw 5 other people with the same chair, the rules either need to be changed to be as specific as possible to avoid any room for confusion or the security is on some stupid power trip over the simplest items. Another non specific rule, the rules say a clear water bottle OR 20 oz factory sealed bottle which is ofc confusing and makes you think you can only bring either an empty bottle or a bottle filled with water not both but both are allowed in itās just needless confusion and the staff needs to be trained better on what is and isnāt allowed in since it seems to be a constant change or they just need to hire staff not on a power trip over the simplest items. Ruined the vibes before I even made it...
