Key features: rock climbing wall, basketball gym consisting of 2 full courts(further divided with 2 width wise courts), aerobic room with gym floor, fitness center, child care with indoor and outdoor play sets, game room, library/ computer center, large pool with lazy river, slides (not always on), and separate child pool with pirate ship thing-both usually around 87to89 deg, smaller therapy pool which is usually in the low 90's, and there is a small golf course (I'm not sure to what extent) Things to know: Out of town YMCA members get 14 free visits a year Monthly membership is only provided for credit card pay or direct draw, cash pay only 3 months at a time Must be over a certain age to use the fitness center and anyone under 17 has to go through orientation first Life guards are always on duty (pool is 4 or 5 ft at its deepest) when pool is open ATM $10 day pass Impression: I do alot of travel so visit many YMCA's; this facility was built around 5 years or so and is beginning to show some age with some of the fitness equipment and in the game room. The basketball floor was recently refinished and is top notch. The pool is cleaned everyday (I've been here for 4 weeks and observe it everyday at the same time) but still has white residue from the chemicals on the floor which they can not get off- I am on it everyday in barefoot and have never got any fungus, etc. . . but its still a good idea to where sandals in the bathrooms-which between cleanings gets dirty(nothing out of the ordinary, just from the dirty, careless public). Fitness center has all necessary equipment but becomes busy after work (starts around 5.30pm and slacks off around 7.30pm), on the weekends (before everyone goes out), and especially early in the week. Overall, this is one of the nicer Y's that I have attended, it does get busy (use common sense to avoid times when everyone can be there), generally the staff is friendly and helpful, they are somewhat strict about money and memberships but its not a charity. Oh yeah, the chemicals in the pool are rather strong- if possible I recommend showering after use. I give it 4 stars for plethora of things to do and the nice staff, but I've been to nicer YMCA's and reserve the 5 star ratings for those...
Β Β Β Read moreLetβs paint the scene. A weary traveler wanders the barren wasteland of old unhealthy habits with fog thicker than egg nog. Soda, sweets, fast food, and more unhealthy items that range in the NC-17 rating system. Things that were originally a comfort were now multiplying and shackling the traveler. They were moving in quicksand (a threat we all at one point believed was very real and more common, donβt lie!). Sinking and now drowning from being sedentary and not practicing moderation.. the traveler reaches out in a frenzy from being smothered. Praying and promising that they will make a change. Their hands make contact with a steel door handle. Prying it open, the traveler stumbles and falls in. They open their eyes and realize the fog is lifting, their shackles vanishing, and the sun breaking through! An angelic choir can be heard. The traveler looks up and sees the choir made up of a police officer, construction worker, a Chieftain, and a John Wayne cowboy being lowered on a cloud singing a lovely hymn about all the fun youβll have staying here and that βthereβs no need to feel down, young man! Pick yourself off the groundβ Dusting themselves off, the staff greets them at the door with a smile. The traveler is taking it all in. The lobby is welcoming and inviting. To the travelerβs left, they see the expansive rock wall. Their 2 oβclock has a pool, 11 oβclock a daycare play area, and in the far back, you can faintly hear weights. Staff can be seen walking and conversing with members. This isnβt just an establishment, its a community. βCan I see more?β the traveler asks the staff member at the front desk.
End scene! In all seriousness, great staff and environment. The YMCA offers a variety of outlets to the public so that they can become their best selves. And they also offer a safe place for kids to play with attentive staff there while parents get their exercise in. The price is reasonable and doesnβt break the bank. It truly is fun to...
Β Β Β Read moreThe YMCA isn't bad per se but when it comes to their YMCA basketball Program, it's extremely bad. (We've been in the volleyball program and it isn't even remotely this bad) The refs are your typical "you get what you get". They try but aren't your trained refs so when it comes to nail biter games don't expect to get even calls. We played a game where our boy got smacked in the face, started to bleed and still nothing. Happened again, and no call. See where I'm going with this? Next, if a team is "struggling", we found out they will allow even midseason for a team to recruit an exceptional player from another team so they can WIN. Just to win. Yes, they allow it!! We found this out through the head of the program. He was telling this to a coach and a bunch of us heard it, from his own mouth. So, they'll allow a team to recruit a top player (when I say top player, this is a player that can easily score minimum 20 points on his own each half) or maybe even 2 from another team mid season yet allow players on the SAME team that aren't as good to sit the ENTIRE game. We witnessed it. Just to WIN. The YMCA program isn't a traveling program. This isn't a tryout only program. This is supposed to be a program that helps kids get into sports and work on their talents, not just WIN. Now it's teaching them the wrong ethics. I, along with a very large group of parents that found all of this out, are just really disappointed in this program, the director and what their mission is that they are teaching these kids bc yes, our kids found out all...
